Main Fan Failing
Main Fan Failing
My main interior fan has been sounding pretty bad recently and today it stopped completely. I'll eventually get around to replacing it but I'm more wondering about how the RAMBO board will hold up. I've used a RAMBO board before and never seen any mention of a need for cooling, but it also wasn't in a small enclosed space with a PSU blowing hot hair around. Is this a possible issue, worst case scenario will the RAMBO just freeze up?
Re: Main Fan Failing
Definitely replace the fan!
Here's a great visual on how hot the Rambo can get:

I replaced the fan on mine because it was squeaking as well. In the process, I soldered a new connector on the board for the fan so a standard fan connector plugs right in:

Re: Main Fan Failing
Thanks for the info, using those RAM heatsinks isn't such a bad idea. I might have to pick some up, already have thermal adhesive compound, just make sure to not F it up as the surface is so small.

Re: Main Fan Failing
Usually the symptoms of the Rambo heating up is the driver chips go into self protect mode and the steppers will start missing steps.
Then you drive yourself crazy trying to figure out what is causing the missed steps and start checking belts, alignment, calibration etc all because
you didn't have a fan cooling the Rambo.
