Pink PLA troubleshooting
Re: Pink PLA troubleshooting
David, I'm sending a LOT more than 10 meters now that I've given up on it and the vendor is not wanting it back. Let us know how you fare! I'll also do one more attempt now that I've stripped a lot off the roll to see if maybe the problem was isolated to the outside of the roll.

since you had whiped down the filament and tried it I would have to suspect that its not something on the filament, but rather in it.mhackney wrote:David, I'm sending a LOT more than 10 meters now that I've given up on it and the vendor is not wanting it back. I dont know how that make the filament, but at a guess it comes peletized in a natural color then they add the coloring pellets and runb it thru an extruder to form the filament. Too much colorant could break down the properties of the filament causing all sorts of issues. burning out the filament and measuring the ash content may reveal the underlying cause. You might also be able to get an idea with a simple break test.
Thatts my best guess anyway

The wipe down did have a noticeable effect for the positive, just not enough. Silicone is very difficult to eradicate. Hard to say on what the problem is.

I wonder if some machine lubricant was introduced to the material during extrusion.
Try this - put a 1" length between two paper towels and then crush it in a vice and see if you get any oils on the paper towel.

Nope, nothing on the towel. But obviously when I clean the surface, it does attempt to stick a bit but not great.

If it's ABS, then it should have stuck like glue to hairspray on glass. If it dissolves in acetone, its not PLA!

Hmm, I guess I didn't take my bed above 60° C my normal PLA bed temp. But surprisingly it didn't stick to anything at that temp. I'll try it now knowing it's ABS! Mystery solved.

Re: Pink PLA troubleshooting
It seems to be pretty good stuff, not that I am any kind of authority on filaments, but id be happy with it (if it was labled abs)
My grand daughter loves the color.. A quick burn test let me know it was not PLA, when you burn pla it burns clean and smells sweet with no smoke, abs burns with a black heavy smoke and stinks like burnt plastic. I dont recommend burning abs, but it is an easy test.....

LOL. I feel like an idiot! But it is amazing that I never have problems getting ABS to stick. But, I guess an 80°C bed makes a big difference!
