I just bought a Black Rostock MAX Complete Kit. Will be building it during my vacation from work. (sounds like work too! but I get to choose what I do 
If anyone reads this do you have any insight for a newbie before (or after) I open my box?

I just got through my build (not without some minor issues) and I am still dialing everything in with minor issues so far resolved fairly quickly along the way.
1. Process Gene's text... In a couple of places, I my brain processed the image, not the text and it got me in a little trouble. Thankfully nothing huge!
2. In my case, a few of the tabs in melamine were too big for the slots and I had to file the tabs down as "I believe, but cannot prove" this was causing an issue with making the towers plumb side to side (which, the way I built it they were all in the same direction that translated into a twist.)
3. Build on and enjoy!

Before building make sure you have the latest assembly manual at http://www.geneb.org/rostock-max/Rostoc ... -Guide.pdf
All the instructions for the build and later calibration is in that guide. Take your time to read and understand what you are reading to
minimize any problems you could run into. Happy building!

Hi Mike, if you are going to paint your edges, do it before you pull your masking off Nice of SeeMe to provide pre-masked parts

Hello,
The only essential thing I found I needed to add to make it work was 24 inches of 14 guage wire for the heated bed. You will want to buy connectors for the electrical ends eventually but wiring up without to get it working is fine. The wire connection for the fan is not included and I used some 24 guage and wired it separatly but there are other methods in the instructions. One mistake I made was cutting the extruder stepper wire to close to the connector which made it difficult to reuse it at the board connection leave 6 inches for easy connections. I personally think setting the z axis height , then setting the x,y,z end stops mechanically as in the manual but then resetting the z height in config and printer settings and resetting the end stops again mechanically while maintaining the correct z height distance and a snug paper test fit ( you will understand this later, maybe) was key for me getting the hot end equally level at all points on the bed. Have fun. I enjoyed the build it took me around 20 hours.
