Bad luck with ABS Juice - What formula do you use?

So I haven't been doing much printing since December, but I have a few projects that I'm trying to get started now. I recently started trying to use ABS juice instead of the glue sticks I have been using so that I could get less part lifting off the bed on large parts. Odd thing is, with ABS juice I am actually getting worse bed adhesion than I was with the glue stick.

What ratio of 1.75mm filament (length) are you using to what volume of acetone?

What temperature are you running your bed? 90-100° gives the best results.

Usually 90C because it takes so much longer to get to 100C. I have tried 100C with similar results however.

90° should be fine to get stick. I basically fill a baby food jar with ABS clippings until it is full, then pour acetone over it and put the lid on. Let it sit for a day or 2. Usually, it will be just right, but if not, it is almost always too thick so I dilute it down with enough acetone to be able to paint it on easily.

Wow a baby food jar full of clippings with acetone added. Sounds like I have an extremely diluted mixture of ~4oz of acetone to 30cm of 1.75mm filament chopped up. I'm going to try a "stonger" mixture and see how it goes.

You don't have to make the full jar - just add enough clippings - keep them short like 1cm or so - and then fill with acetone to just cover. That way you can make a smaller amount.

Just don't make it too strong, you don't want it sticking so well that chunks of your bed glass come up with the part.

What's wrong with parts that have a glass bottom? I think it adds a neat effect to the part!

Yeah, I have checked around and you can't find them for a better price. Shipping costs to you has to be expensive also.

Thanks for looking out. At least after the mirror exercise I know the money is being well spent. And hopefully I'll reach a purple stick or juice setup that works before I run out of this load of glass

Do you have extra hold hair spray available down under? I have tried the sticks, the juice, etc and the hair spray works the best for me. It holds well without pulling chunks
out of the glass like the juice will do. I apply it when the bed is heating then when the bed reaches temperature it appears to be dry but it sure holds well. I then wait for the
glass to cool down and the part releases easily. I used to try to remove the part when the bed was still hot and I would have to use a wood chisel to pry the part off.

i don't use ABS juice and the reason is that i don't know how to do it
well for me 80C bed temp and UHU stick glue work perfect , and i do use aluminium to Dissipate the heat better

Elmer's School Glue Sticks are about $12 for a 30 pack. They work very well, don't smell or coat things around the printer with hair spray, and don't pull up chunks out of the glass. Highly recommended.

The sticks should work okay. The juice has the best holding power without a doubt but I can't afford to be replacing the boro every time a chunk gets
ripped out. I have used ABS glue sold for plumbing pipes but it only comes in black and I wasn't thrilled with the results. Sticks or hairspray is about
as good as it gets, not the best but at least my boro doesn't get chunky.

Sticks turned up yesterday.

Cleaned the glass, applied stick one direction, allowed to dry clear, applied in other direction, ran bed up to 80º and started a print. Forget lifting corners, the hot end was dragging the skirt around the bed as it was trying to print it. Let it try and do a few laps and just pulled the whole mess off the glass. Zero adhesion. Looking at the bottom of the "print" it was all squished to a flat finish with hairlines between passes on that surface so it's not like I was printing from too far off the bed. Extrusion was coming out fine, too.

Meh. I wonder what this purple vanishing Elmer's glue tastes like coz it's no good for sticking ABS to a glass bed.

Sod it. Kaptain Kapton to the rescue.

I usually just lay down a single pass of it. You have to let it dry before you start printing and you don't want it on too thick. In fact, it should be less than paper thin! Apply just enough pressure to get it on. If it's being laid down in globs you're pressing too hard.

Yep, just a light film. Which is still on the glass. The ABS didn't stick to the glue.
