First Print from the H1.1

Post by jasco13 »

Needs a little calibration and a little tweaking, but not to bad for print 1.

Looks good! What slicer are you using?

Calibration complete. Used this thing from thingiverse.

Calibration tests went from left to right. Too big, too small, and just right.

I'm using Slic3r that came with the latest repetier. I'm using repetier to do everything. I like the program. Pronterface handles some things a little better, but useability (newb-ability) is probably better with repetier.

Yep, Repetier Host is pretty sweet, probably the best host side 3D printer control software available. I use Repetier firmware for my Sanguinololu board, but have seen some improvements to Marlin that might make me try it out again.

I am using Marlin. I tried using sprinter but it was a little to simple (not enough configuration) for what I needed.

Holy Cow! Those are your first 3 prints ever on it!!!!! Awesome. I'll have to find all our "first squirts" upstairs and take some pics sometimes.

As for repetier/marlin, repetier firmware is pretty darn good. Right now, I'm using rep on my main printer, and a modified marlin on the RAMBo board. The RAMBo has digipots for adjusting motor current etc... so I need that in the firmware, which the only one I knew of was marlin @ the moment. I'm bugging rep to add that to his, so I can switch back to repetier fw

Yup first three prints. Pretty happy with the results. I need to print some taller calibration pieces to make sure I have Z dialed in. Also need to calibrate the extruder and temperature still.

I put a piece of glass on top of the build surface to flatten it out. I don't think I'd get consistent adhesion of the first layer without it.

If anyone is interested I'll post the marlin config file for others to use as a starting point, just remember mine is setup for endstop at Z-max.

Hey, Jasco -- that's lookign really good, and way beyond where I am! (My H1.1 is still in assembly...) If I read the above notes correctly, you're running Rep-Host with Slic3r. Are you also running Rep-Firmware? If so, is there any chance you'd post your config file? That's the configuration I'm planning to start with (Rep-Host || Slic3r || Rep-Firmware), and seeing someone else's set up would help a lot!
Thanks.

I'm running Rep host, but I'm using Marlin firmware. If you want I can post my marlin config when I get home this evening. It will at least give you and idea how to setup the repetier firmware.

@Jasco --
I would appreciate that ... I am somewhat out of my league in all this and need every bit of "this worked for me" that I can get!
Thanks.

My Janky filament feeder setup until I get something better setup. Rocking out print number 4 as we speak. Seemecnc spool holder. On about layer 35 of 300 I figured out that it won't fit my spools, but I'll let it print out just to see how it looks.

Print number 4 complete. Straight off the printer with no cleanup. I'm pretty happy with the quality.

That print looks pretty damn good!

You are not having any problems with the filament feeding into the extruder? I can't run my printer more then an hour without the filament working its way out between the rollers and top of the extruder.

No problem here. That took a little over 3.5 hours to print. I used 1.75mm PLA.

Is your Extruder calibrated? Maybe you are feeding it too fast.

Well happened to me 3 times in a row. It has also become more difficult to feed in new filament (harder to hit the hole). Maybe after a few heat cycles things have moved around a bit causing some miss-alignment.
