Heated Bed Layering

Post by joecnc2006 »

I have the ONYX Round PCB Heated Bed original without the tabs.
Was wondering if I use 1/4" aluminum plate between it and the Rostock MAX Glass Build Plate 300mm If this would help distribute the heating surface, would like some input and thoughts.
I have 1/8" and 1/4" 6061 plate Aluminum on hand and can cut it to fit with a notch around the connections/led etc. but I think 1/8" is to thin.

Many users have used aluminum between the Heated Bed and the glass, the main criteria being that the aluminum must be absolutely flat, most users use
the cast aluminum MIC-6. If your 1/4" plate is flat it should be fine and will help to distribute the heat. Some users use the Onyx as a template and create
drilled and countersunk for the #4 screws, others just lay the plate on the Onyx. When I did mine I did drill the holes in the aluminum that matched the
Onyx and just used longer #4 screws.

The 1/8" will help distribute the heat well, and not take so long to heat up.
I have made and used 1/16" aluminum plate and it evens out the heat well also, plus I think it is thin enough that sandwiched between the glass and heated bed will keep it flat.
