Post by Batteau62 »

This looks like a really cool way to apply a design/pattern to a part ;) Anyone have any experience with it :?:

I'd be interested in the possibility of some kind of DIY carbon fiber coating. Could make some really cool looking stuff if you can get the surface smooth enough.

Purple = sarcasm

Please do a board search before posting your question, many have been answered with very time consuming detail already.

I do have a little experience with it, and planned to make it a part of my business this summer as a customizing option for the products I sell.

Before dipping, just make sure you use a plastic adhesion promoter before painting the base coat. Should be interesting to see how some of the translucent filament works without a base coat.

Another thing I do is Plasti Dip. I do it for car customization, and a few other things. I use the aerosol, or gallon sprayable dip. Stuff is amazing.

If you don't mind, caseythehost, could you post some links to suppliers you use/trust?

For Plasti Dip I like the hardware store for black aerosol, or DipYourCar.com for everything else.

For hydrographics I personally prefer Ozarks:

You can get starter kits from mydipkit.com and dipwizard.com. Those are the two most common first stops for the new dipper. Ozarks just gives you better stuff IMO. EZdipkits.com is out there too, but I don't have any experience with them.

Best of luck.
