Calibration of infills

Post by midget214 »

I have been calibrating my h1 for the last few days, and the layer height finally seems correct. I started with the infill calibration but something is weird.
The infill is not touching the perimeters of the object. I changed my Extruder multiplier to 1.1, but it didn't fix the issue. My prints seems to be the correct height so I don't think the Z-axis steps-per-mm is wrong. The layers seems to stick well so it doesn't seem that the layer height is inconstant. The printed part is also the correct size in the X and Y axis. Lastly the perimeters also sticks fine.

Any ideas?

Oh, I forgot to mention. My slicer settings are as follows

using Slicer v 0.9.2

Print Speeds (all default)
Layer Height: 0.35mm

When you see it pulled away from 1 edge like that the usual culprit is some backlash. So I'd check belt tension.
It's a little odd that it's only in the middle of the edge.
How do circles come out?

ok, I just printed a circular object. I watched closely while it printed and it seems the extruder head is not moving all the way to the side when it is printing the infill. What is strange though is that the very first layer is perfect.

The first layer being perfect could be because the first layer gets squashed a bit and the plastic spreads out more than in the infill. Have you tried slowing down the infill speed? I found that on my machine if I use too fast a speed on the infill they get pretty stringy/thin.

Oh, and how round is the part? If it's not round then either you have backlash or the calibration on the X or Y axis is wrong.

Its not 100% round, but its pretty close. If I secure the calipers on 20mm and try to rotate the object inside, it moves freely. Im going to turn down the infill speed and see what happens. Thanks

Ok, the print just finished,. I reduced the infill speed from 60mm/s to 45mm/s, and its a little bit better, but the infill still doesn't touch the perimeters in all places. I have uploaded a video I took while the print was busy with an infill layer. Hopefully that will help as well to identify the issue better.

The only thing I can think of is to rotate the part and print it to see if the gap between the infill and the perimeter moves to the corner or stays at the side. Not sure what the result would mean though.
