New machine just arrived need some help

Post by precisionpete »

Got my new orion printer today.
Unboxed and set her up. Small annoyance one of the plastic thumbscrew heads got broken (UPS must bang stuff hard)

Question: Went through the setup and when I get to print from sd card the machine says inserted but when I set select file nothing there?
I put into the computer and the files are there. Something not right or I missed something?

Got to the point where I set up repetier host to print but figured I would stop and give it a rest for the day and start fresh and somebody say's Howdy back.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure, but does the SD card contain .STL files or .gcode files? If it's STLs, you'll need to open Repetier and 'slice' the STL file with Slic3r (or any other piece of slicing software).

On the sd card .gco files doesn't see any files and I tried another sd card.

Another problem, while scrolling the file menu I need to know what the correct setting is for the extruder steps/mm should be?
Without realizing I was on that menu I turned the dial and moved the setting.

Going to try to print using the computer

On my Orion, the extruder steps per mm is 92.4

You have tried a different card and the computer can read the files but the LCD will not, if that is the scenario your next step would most likely be to

if you got one of the orions with the blue "elite pro high speed" sd card, I would suggest using it as a frisbee... and its prolly not even good at doing that... unfortunately thoes cards are, hmmm, well I would say cheap but that would give even cheap things a bad name.. yea, they suck... try a different card..

Eight.Three file names only...

Any others won't be read by the SD reader. It's Arduino, not the software....

On my Orion it will read 14 character file names and the extension can be GCO or Gcode.

actually the .91 firmware works with long filenames, I use really long ones all the time here at the shop.. even the extension can be more than 3 with it.

Thank you for verifying that my Orion could read long filenames. I was beginning to think I was the only one who could read long filenames.

Saw reply's here with people talking about my small problem.

Fixed it myself, 3 SD cards later it reads. Something is real fussy, not even reading just sees the card to tell you it's inserted.

Back to actually working on important stuff :)

Thanks for everyone's input.
