Just received my kit - Missing Parts turned Build Discussion

Dampers... I ordered from Astroboy. He says 6x 6mm 3M screws are needed. I don't know how they compare to the cork ones, but here is a before/after for the astrosyn style...

As for the connectors, more for the heaters than the fans, but the micro deans are no bigger than the JST's. They need to be soldered, but I find that easier than trying to properly crimp the JST servo style connectors, which I've always had a hard time with (even with the proper crimping tool, and I've done quite a few in the past).

I think the one he got (in your linked post) are slightly different than the ones Astroboy is selling. I'll know in the next couple days exactly what I need and I'll report back...

Have you guys already built your printers? im stuck on the stepper motor mounting part because i was waiting for trick lasers parts to arrive, and now that ive re ordered Astroboys ill have to wait longer.

Think its worth waiting or will it be too much of a pain to try and slip them in after its all built?

I'm where you are, but I'm not going to continue the build until the dampers arrive. Don't see it worth the hassle of having to disassemble, when they'll be here in 4 days. Looks like it wouldn't be possible to just slip them in.

Does anyone with the dampers installed notice a difference in print performance? Any concerns about the flexibility of the motor mount being translated to the belt/arms?

So, I contacted the seller of the Meanwell SP-750-24, he relisted it for me so I could "Buy it Now." Total shipped was $53.67, so a pretty good deal! I could have gotten it for $3 less in fact, but I loathe Fedex Smart Post, which was the other economy option... I just chose standard USPS... 11th-19th estimated delivery, which is fine by me, since I still have to search for a SSR and figure out a few other things. $60 would have been Priority, which would have it here before the end of the week.

That is a good price on that power supply, it sells at 3 times that price at other sites and is one powerful power supply. If you need more info on how to hook it up to the Onyx just ask. The fan in this
power supply is a little on the loud side as is all the heavy amperage supplys. Moving away a lot of heat means more fan noise.

The heatbed output from the Rambo would go to the input on the SSR. Watch the polarity when you are connecting the wires. The Positive output of the 24V power supply goes to the positive side of the
SSR and the other output screw of the SSR would go to the positive side of the Onyx. The negative side of the 24V power supply would connect directly to the negative side of the Onyx.

Yup big plus with it shipping from the U.S.... went ahead and ordered it, thanks. Next step is to find a decent heatsink. I wonder if I can modify one of the many cpu heatsinks I have lying around.

I tried a hairdryer on the tip for about 5 mins, didn't budge with hand(wrapped with a towel of course)

The grub screws came out no problem

I just noticed the hot end isn't even supposed to use the JST, instead the 4x1 snap connector, so I was mistaken on that. Oh well.

Got the Damper plates... Yup, the Astroboy set just uses 2 m3 x 6mm screws to hold the motor, and the plates can be attached to the board with the same 10mm screws used for the motor in the stock config.

In checking I noticed one of the motor connectors has a big blob of glue at the end, covering one of the guide tabs, and it actually goes into one of the lead holes. If I did enough scraping/filing I suppose I could clean it up enough to make it usable again, but it looks like the connector is the same one suggested for use on the hotend. If so, the ones I ordered as suggested by the manual should arrive Friday. Are they the same 1x4 connectors? If so, lucky I ordered extra.

Word of warning about replacing the PSU, some ATX PSU's (often the better ones) require a significant load on the 5V line before they will deliver a consistent 12V.
If I were replacing the PSU, I wouldn't swap it for another ATX PSU.

What would your suggestion be?

Did you put too much loctite on the grub screws? The pulley's went on a little tight on a couple of the motor shafts, so I can imagine it would be difficult to remove if they were also glued in place with the loctite. The pic in the manual has far too much in my opinion. I don't think it should ooze out like that. I put just a dot on each grub screw then twisted each in my fingers to spread it thin. I haven't tried removing the pulleys yet, but will do tomorrow morning. But may want to try some isopropyl or acetone.

I can check in the morning if those connectors fit the motor connectors (if that's what you're wanting to know - sorry, lack of sleep, my brains not functioning at 100% right now ), unless someone beats me to it.

Looks good, the pinion pullers look to be about $10-15 on Ebay. Mine came off without a problem luckily, a little snap of the loctite and it pulled off. I measured the pulley gear at 14mm, so I'm just going to mark the shaft at 8mm from the top and install the pulley gear so that the bottom is to the mark. That would leave it raised the 6mm mentioned in the other thread.

Question... is this wiring correct for the 24V power supply + SSR? Also, wondering, does it matter that the thermistor in my heat bed is different than the thermistor I'm using for the hot end? I'll be using the screw-on thermistor for the hot end.

You know, I've been worried about that! I've been reading reviews mentioning the same thing. I'm starting to feel like I should just run it directly through the Rambo. Do you have any suggestions on what to do? I'm not able to find a better SSR. If I ran it straight through the Rambo... do I need to make any changes?
