Bought one of the beta units from a #reprap irc user named Mutley today. I like this design and I'm planning on testing it with the rostock max.

hmmm... not sure that will work for the rostock max... are you planning on buying 3 of these to mount to your 3 aluminum extrusions..... I dont see a benefit of having that on there... rostock max already has a bowden extruder.. the drive mechanism is similiar to what the rostock has already for axis movement. Am I missing something here.?

The extruder is on the hot end, while the stepper remains on the machine - it uses a flexible cable to power the extruder - kind of like a flexible extension for a rotary tool works.

Ic... I was seeing the different x axis setup on his mendelmax and thinking that was the flexidrive the op was referring too... that makes sense now..

Now that's an interesting idea... Direct drive without(?) hysteresis?

Yes. According to the designer, there's no hysteresis in the system.

off-topic but I built an enclosure for my romax with the misumi free150 promo today. I'm holding off on completing the max until the v2 upgrade comes out as I feel I'd benefit from it.

That looks like the beginnings of a great enclosure. I wonder if the local home depot or lowes has clear panels that large?
I bought a bunch of the extrusions also during the free150 sale so I am going to watch your enclosure closely because it
looks like a nice way to use some of the extrusions.

I'm hoping that either Grainger or home depot has large clear panels. Otherwise, I'm going to have to improvise with a black garbage bag or a lot of clear bag wrap.

Your answer made me think. I would prefer the expensive clear panels but as an alternative that plastic they sell for windows that you heat shrink in place would work but
I question its durability.
