Can you solder the balls to the screws? It seems like it would be a comedy of errors unless you had a real good grip on that iron.

I would say no, but here is someone that did: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searc ... TpB2oSBrEJ

I'm not sure what kind of solder he used, but most solder is not meant for tension applications, especially "electronics" solder, which doesn't have very good strength properties to start.

What size are those balls you guys JB Weld to the screw heads?

Just wondering because I found some ball studs that might possibly be used if they're the right size.

I've been running with loctite ultra gel control for months now in a heated build chamber, and haven't lost a ball since I switched over.

Find someone with an EDM machine? Hm... that'd be a neat attachment for the rostock....

What is the source on the balls? We already had a post about the traxxas balls and those look very similar.

Imagesearch leads me to these sites:

http://store.rc4wd.com/Associated-Balls ... _2276.html
Neither page says what they're made of, so no idea if they'll stick to a magnet or not.

They also do not give the diameter of the balls which is the most critical aspect.

They are #4 nuts which I believe are 1/4 inch in diameter, so the balls are probably < 6mm.

Good point, and I already have the Traxxas balls that are on the stud so I'll keep my plans to use those.

That is the problem with the Traxxas balls, they are sold in both the aluminum and steel versions and you have to be sure
what you are ordering. The steel versions work perfectly with the magnets, just be careful what you are ordering.
