Prints coming out terribly
Re: Prints coming out terribly
Thank you for that! I'll give it a shot tomorrow morning and see what it produces!
Re: Prints coming out terribly
Unfortunately, your settings didn't work for me... but I appreciate you sharing them. That leap of a 5mm z-hop caused a whole lot of thick lines though with my drooling, oozing hotend.
Thing is a faucet, so I'll have to lower that back down to the 0.075mm hop, maybe even lower. I do notice that half of the print has very nice fine lines, the other half it seems like the lines get a little bit thicker, I wonder if that indicates anything.

Yes, I think it indicates that the z height is not consistent across your entire bed. I have the same issue.atoff wrote:I do notice that half of the print has very nice fine lines, the other half it seems like the lines get a little bit thicker, I wonder if that indicates anything.
Re: Prints coming out terribly
I'm not sure how else to calibrate that, I've run through the typical calibration from the manual several times, and it's near perfect.
I did a test just now of a couple of layers, gave a really nice example of the varying thicknesses. I think the quality's actually really nice, I just want the gaps to go away. X can be ignored, that's a new layer, the others should be the same layer.

Re: Prints coming out terribly
A single layer without any holes, and in one direction is absolute perfection! This is frustrating.
This was done with 110% flow rate.

Re: Prints coming out terribly
As for the Z hop, I'm sorry. I didn't realize you'd be replicating what was in the config. After a few months of printing is PLA, I feel I've started to get a 'feel' of what's right and the hop with that particular filament at a certain temp gave me good result, but for everything, that might not be so good.
In your last picture there, that looks great! I've recently posted a thread about the flow of a print.
When I start a print, I'll really check the 'feel' of the print being laid down. If I feel a pile of ridges, I'll lower the flow. Counter to that, if I see/feel spots that are too low or gaps, I would increase it. Personally, I've only had to lower it. Sometimes on my first layer when it's being printed, the extruder will skip (due in part to an uneven bed) because it's so close and can't extrude enough. I honestly prefer it that way as I know it's really putting that first layer down solid.
If you're boosting up to 110% to get the finish you've displayed there, then stick with it. I found a lot of my stuff is experiment. I've got a different flow percentage for each of my spools. The picture you've posted looks like you're starting to figure things out.

Re: Prints coming out terribly
All good, it was fun watching that thing hop around!
The rest of your settings seem to work really well for me.
And yeah, I've been watching the first few layers to see how it's doing, then tweaking, the reprinting. I did see your thread about the flow, that's what actually gave me the idea to try increasing it. I tried decreasing at first, and that seemed to make it worse. With 110% for this filament, I'm still having a problem with gaps, but the lines seemed a little smoother.
I also saw a post from mhackney about him printing on printer / photo paper, that's been making it a LOT easier to start print after print. Sticks really well, comes off easily, and creates a nice finish.
Next step for me is to try slowing down the print an absurd amount.
