So how about Makerbot and their thievery?

Post by McSlappy »

I have some things on thingiverse, I'm thinking I may just switch to another platform. Sadly thingiverse is the largest :/

What does everyone else use?
I loved my Rostock so much I now sell them in Oz :)

I haven't uploaded much yet (besides some STLs right here on the forum, and nothing to thingiverse), but the latest Makerbot move is a good motivator to not put things on thingiverse.

Github has the ability to view STL files now, so I've got my stuff there for starters. Right now, it's just one set of parts - a different effector platform for the Traxxas ball studs and magnetic arms.

There are a few RepRap folks working on alternate platforms, and of course, we've got repables right here.

The 3d printer industry needs to mobilize and support anyone in conflict with the patent troll known as Stratasys (owners of Makerbot). They cannot be allowed to stranglehold the 3d printing market. I will buy from and donate to any of their targets.

This has come quite a long way since opening! :D

Please do a board search before posting your question, many have been answered with very time consuming detail already.

Github will never take off as an .stl repository since it's just too damn unfriendly for noobs.

Repables is decent, I've used them a few times. Probably the better of the alternatives that I've ever seen.
bld3r is ok though it needs work

I'm pretty astounded that they'd stoop to blatantly swiping a design like that, especially after giving credit. Even if they apologize, they've shown their stripes.
