Early Kit, Late Build

Post by Ozy »

I got an early v2 kit on March 4th but work has prevented me from starting my build until now. I noticed a few kit changes since I got mine. I'm sure I have a v2 onyx bed. Is the v3 bed significantly different to justify swapping it out? Is there anything else that I should be aware of on the kit that has been altered or improved since I purchased it? I did download the newest manual, and I already went out and got all the tools and materials in March that were listed.

Thank you!

I'm not sure what you mean by V3 bed - the V2 is the latest Rostock Max and this uses the same bed as the V1, so I don't there will be any issues with your build at all.

Is this the machine you bought?

It's a v2 RoStockMax. Check the build manual. The heated bed plate refers to two versions now a v2 and a v3. I'm not talking about Rostock v1 vs v2. I'm talking about changes to the v2 kit since its release in March.

You're lucky you got the V2 Onyx. The V3 has been pulled from the SeeMe store as it has heating issues. They are working on a new version of the heated bed. For now the Onyx V2 is the best you can get!

I wasn't aware that they pulled the version 3 heat bed.

It doesn't heat up as fast as the nozzle but my V3 bed works fine - I could boil the kettle on it if I wanted!!

Somewhere between mid-late April and mid May. I recieved a Rostock kit around April 18 and it had a Rev3 Onyx. No matter what I tried, I couldn't get that bed up to temperature. SeeMe sent me a Rev2 Onyx and I hit my target temp of 100C in 4.5 minutes. Two more Rostock kits arrived at my door two days ago (working on a big exciting project) and neither have the new Rev3 Onyx. They both have the Rev2. From what SeeMe told me, some Rev3 beds are fine, others just can't get up to temperature. Some sort of die issue IIRC. They're working on a new revision Onyx now, and when my business partner spoke to them a week ago they said they'd have the new revision Onyx in a couple weeks.
