End Stop Switches

Post by nitewatchman »

Tell me about Hall Effect Sensors?

How well do they repeat?

Is there a configured kit to work with Rambo?

Great repeatability, getting the bare sensors themselves is perfectly fine if you don't mind having to use software endstop adjustments. The plus side is the bare Hall effect sensors make it ~$3 upgrade (add more for the magnets) vs the $30+ for sensor boards with trim.

You wire the three legs of the bare sensors directly to the rambo and change a couple firmware settings, then you're good to go. The way I mounted mine too, I got some extra vertical too.

Another benefit of magnetic sensors, when you home, there isn't physical contact with the top plate or the sensor so you don't have a possibility of shifting either one when homing.

Lordbinky, if you have a copy of the firmware changes that would be necessary, that would be great also.

Yes, sounds like it is worth a hard look. I am having a small repeatability issue with my Y column calibration. It will see to drift a bit but when it is brought back in line, no further tweaking is required of the
X, Z or radius to restore the calibration.

Everything is tight, the adjustment screw are spotted with nail polish to prevent them from turning and the homing is being done in a consistent manner. I think that either the contact has a bit of bounce or the internal mechanism is a little sloppy.

Either way the Hall Effect sensor looks like the " next shiny object" to be attracted to after magnetic arms (if mine actually work).
