LCD Knob not fully working...

Post by chris081277 »

As far as I know, I've got everything hooked up and connected properly. I am able to print out the first fan shroud (that's where I'm at right now), however, the LCD Knob is not functioning properly. I can push the knob in, and it goes to the settings display as it should. The problem is when I turn the knob. Turning the knob, 1 click, throws it into a reset loop. It will send the print head to the home position, then wait a few seconds as it restarts, then sends it home again, restarts, etc. Non-stop. If I turn the knob 1 more click, it stops this reset loop and everything works fine.

This is frustrating. I was able to set my Z=0 point using G-Code and following the instructions from this thread, http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php ... 00&p=37495 This worked perfect to get me running. But I'd really like to get this knob situation figured out, so I can actually use the LCD on the front of the printer.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any input.

That knob is on an encoder. I wonder if there's some sort of short between one of the lines and another signal such that the bottom bit of the encoder wreaks havoc when in one of its two states. Perhaps your LCD<=>RAMBo cable is shifted by a pin? Or, perhaps the adaptor?

I think that this came up eariler on the forum. I can't find the post but I believe that the LCD Ribbon cables were corrected incorrectly.

Ah. Thanks nitewatchman. I'll see if I can find the post. I was thinking it would be something like that, as everything else works. Even the push button on the knob.

dtgriscom, everything looks to be in order from what I can see. I will dig around the adapters a bit more in depth after it's finished with the 2nd fan shroud print. Thanks for the input.

Another possibility: a short on the adaptor board.

I got it figured out. One of the grey ribbons was indeed flipped. I'm sure it was mentioned already, but make sure the grey ribbon wires are lined up properly.

On the LCD front plate, the red side of BOTH grey ribbon wires (A & B) should be pointing towards the SD Card slot.

On the actual Board, the red side of BOTH grey ribbon wires (A & B) should be pointing towards the RIGHT side of the machine when looking at it face on.

Hope this helps.

thanks everyone!

The ribbon cables are really hard to get right. If you can think of a way to improve the manual's description of it, post it on the manual discussion thread.
