Layer fan mod.

Post by Boundless »

Hey Guys,

I have made a small change to the layer fan using Sketchup. I simply closed it off on the bottom except for the end. This creates more of a wind tunnel that forces air right at the area being printed, instead of it spreading over most of the bed. The air flow is really impressive. I like it so much, I am adding 2 more of these to the effector.

What do ya think?

I think that it is a great idea. Are you willing to share the stl file?

Thanks for sharing that. I like the fan housing better because most of the air comes out at the nozzle.

here's the new design we are using here at the shop... since we redesigned the platform and its thicker, I changed the fan shroud so it doesn't hit the platform when installing, also capped the bottom, and capped off the tab area so the fan can shift less...

Sooooooo, its a fan shroud design-off ehh? Throwing down the gauntlet?

Kidding, that looks great! I knew my design would be made obsolete in a few days lol. Thanks for the STL. I'll give it a try.

Where are you guys sourcing the fans? They're a bit salty, so I haven't picked any up yet.

I go to the stock area and grab em lol... http://seemecnc.com/collections/parts-a ... blower-fan these are what I designed the shroud for..

dont feel bad boundless, I'm the one who originally designed the shroud, and decided to throw in the capping idea into the new revision... originally I didnt because of back pressure.. and there is still a decent amount of it, but the airflow out the tip is quite a lot even with this design, I just had to add a cutout because the new thicker platform needed clearance.. and while I was at it, decided to cap off the tab area.

I like what you did there. The capped off area will keep the fan pointed at the nozzle instead of being free to spin on the screw. I also liked the rounded end. This should give a bit more clearance from the surface as well.

Thanks again Guanu.

Nice revision. Thanks Guanu.

I am curious, what are the square bumps on each side for?

Keeps the shafts on the Effector from walking out in that direction on mine at least.

I was having issues with the original layer fan shroud impacting my prints. I was glad to find the modified design. Thanks!

Now you guys just need to redesign the fan to fit for the V1 owners. ;)
