Hi from Norway!

Post by ThomasF »

Hi everybody.
Thought i'd drop by and introduce myself. I'm a mechanical engineer working in Norway primarily with offshore stuff. Moving to project manager position so i figured i'd better get hold of something that could keep my design skills fresh. I came across the Rostock Max at a suppleir who used it for small and cheap prototypes and i love it. So i ended up ordering two complete units, one for the office for the guys left in my department, and one for my house. So I'm the winner who gets two build two machines in a row. (I'll start with the office one first and make all the errors there and tweek my skills before building mine ;)
I'd like to thank every body that has contributed to this forum already as it gives newbie's like me a chance to even get a grip on how this should be done!
I really like the paint job Jimustanguitar did and if you're not offended i wouldn't mind copying that color and do the same! The same supplier i talked about also recommended me bying the carbon delta arms from tricklaser and hotend from hotends.com. I also got the simplify3d software and started playing around with that. Normally i design in Autodesk Inventor, but that might change when moving to a new employer. The license i have now is a home license valid for one year (as we have server license in the office you're granted one homelicense per serverlicense).
Looking forward to get the printer up and running and print some spare parts for my rc planes, i normally do a kamikaze every now and then..
So i guess thats it for now!

Hi There Thomasf and welcome to the Forum.
Sounds like are going to be busy in the near future building two Rostock Max printers.
Thanks for the purchase, we believe that it is the best printer in the world.
We are here to help you if you need it, or advise you if you have a question. We also don't mind
just chatting if that's what you feel like doing.
One suggestion, you mentioned getting hotends from hotends.com and that would mean a j-head.
I recommend that you take a look at the E3D V6 hotend which is all metal and can print filament that
requires much hotter temperatures like some nylons, most of the clear ones and other exotic filaments.
If you put in a j-head then you limit yourself in what filaments you can work with.
Anyway, we like pictures and would appreciate pictures while you build your printer.
Best of luck with everything and Happy Printing!

PS: The E3D Hotends are also sold by Filastruder.com and they are here in the States. E3D.com is in England.

Progress so far. Missing the kapton tape so jumped over the steps with hotend and the heated bed. Will start on that asap when received. Now i'm afraid to continue any further incase i need to pull it apart again for the bed assembly for some reason. Also i used one of the hole cut outs to assemble the bearing and sleeve, worked like a charm

Don't worry, when it comes down to it, its not hard to do the bed last! I have replaced my bed 3 times since I completed my build.
Just take gene up on the tape tip, tape those metal threaded parts that you hammer into the underside of the top part of the base. I had one fall out when I installed the heated bed and it was a pain to locate and put back into place when everything was all closed up.

You have made great progress!
