There is no 6V in the system. That is why his resistor was getting hot at 12V. I use a 6V battery pack or a 9V battery. 12V is too much for this resistor.

I would go for 2x 18650 batteries. Rechargeable and they last a long time. If you look on dx or banggood you can find the batteries and a battery holder for them.

I use a hobby grade 6V battery from my RC cars.

4.2V fully charged. 3.7V under load. 3V at end of charge. But drops rapidly after approx 3.5V.

How many W are the leds in total?

I have no idea. I designed them around 10 years ago.

I ordered three sets of these. No, not because they're bad, because I'm an idiot. I cut the resistor off the first set I got thinking, "Oh yeah, it'll be fine Jason, just splice it right into the 12v line of the PEEK fan"... *POW* all six LEDs blew in a quick little spark.

(ORDER #2)
"Alright, we're gonna do it right this time Jason" *acquire 5v voltage regulator from radioshack, cut resistor off again (LIKE AN IDIOT)* "OOH, pretty lights! They work this time! Hey... weren't there just 6 lights on... why are there only three on? Now two... and one.."

(ORDER #3)
"Do NOT remove the resistor Jason!" *wires LEDs with resistor to 5v voltage regulator* "SUCCESS!!"
Thanks for sending me all these lights and putting in the work to make each set for me :)

If at first you don't succeed, you're doing something wrong. Try again, and if it fails again, try once more. Through trial and error, one can be the first to accomplish something great.

For those of you that left a couple of the 5volt wires from the axt power supply you can just wire them to that and switch and walla you have stable 5volts and no battries needed.
