New member from Austin TX, new printer on the way

Hi, I'm from Austin, TX. I ordered the max v2 kit and its scheduled for delivery on Wednesday, Aug 27th.

As far as career, I've been in computer/video game development for the past 20 years. I'm an artist and game designer and hope to print some nice 3D artwork as well as many other things.

Trying to assemble all the tools/components necessary before the printer arrives so I'll be ready to start assembly without delay so if anyone has tips on what I need besides the items listed in the build doc, that would be great.

Also interested in learning what the top mods are, especially if they are low cost mods that are easy to do when assembling but hard to do later on.

Welcome to the forum! You will have a great time building the V2.
The top upgrade to consider is dampers between the steppers and the body of the V2. Much easier to install during the build rather than after and they make a huge difference in the noise level of the printer.

You will need three of them. one for each axis. The other mods can wait until the printer is built and you decide what mods you would like to do.

The resistor wires are about 2" long and there are two of them that will twisted together.
If it is sold by the foot then 1 foot will be more than enough.

Thank you. Question on the motor dampers... wouldn't that decrease precision?

Great question, and that's what most everyone else has been wondering as well.

I haven't done any actual empirical study of the matter, but I do have the dampers installed, and if you check my thread here, I printed the lower part of the skull with dampers, whereas the top was printed before they were installed.

I personally haven't noticed a loss in precision, and as other members have noted, many of these dampers are designed with precision in mind, down into the microns even.

Theoretically, the dampers should help accuracy due to less resonance through the printer, which can lead to missed steps. But the dampers could also introduce some mechanical play due to the rubber. I guess it's a lose-lose, but most people want to lose without a lot of noise
