New Guy to 3D printing

Hi,

I have been looking to get into 3D printing. I am very technically inclined with a programming, electronics and computing background. I was initially looking at the Printrbot metal, loved the price but thought the build size was a little too small. Saw the Boots Industries BI V2.5 and almost pulled the trigger. I was unable to select the extruder combo I wanted, so I let them know. The stock which I don't think was ever available now says no stock and they bumped their price by $200. I like the delta 3D printer and now I am looking at the Rostock MAX v2 3D Kit in place of the BI V2.5. I think the price of the Rostock MAX v2 3D Kit is good and I am already thinking of some mods I would do. Now the choice is between the BI V2.5, the Rostock MAX v2 3D Kit or building a delta 3D printer from scratch so to speak.

Anyways, looks like a great forum, glad to be here and be part of the community.

If you do get the rostock you will not regret it. Great machine.

I completely believe you, just wondering if I want to get the kit and tweak it or start from the ground up.

I had considered building my own, I sourced the parts and collected a few things for the build. but in the end i found it easier to just buy the kit. I still think about printing another printer from time to time though.

Just getting into printing, ie this is your first one?

Get the kit.

Trust me, you're going to have enough to get your head/hand/tools around as it is without adding the measuring/cutting/planning etc and you will end up paying more for a complete DIY than you would for the kit.

Definitely a kit.

I have a % 99.9 finished reprap sitting next to my bed. Running around for the little bits and bobs killed that project.

If you sum up the parts and the shipping and all the hassle and running around the Rostock kit is a real bargain.
