Here's something I threw together tonight, A twisted Savonius turbine. about 8 inches in diameter by 12 inches high. All you need to finish it is a pair of 3/8x 1/4 flanged bearings, a piece of 1/4" all thread rod, a belleville washer, or something conical for the bottom bearing to set on,, a couple of nuts, a coupler, and an eyebolt to hang it from. I'm currently printing it in abs,,,,, I hope.

If you look at my live view cam, you can see it currently stuck to the bed, I'll be printing the cap when I get home from work tonight.

Well, when it's finished, I'll be sure to post a picture. Meanwhile, I went a little heavy on the layers, and burned through a spool of PLA, Now I get to see how much of a mess changing up from PLA to ABS during a print.

And ABS doesn't stick to PLA. The single layer of PLA just peeled right off.

In the middle is the print from the file I posted. It was printed heavy with PLA, damn near the whole spool. Printed with the .7 nozzle, .5 layer height, and .75 layer width. 4 layers for the perimeter, and it took 11 hours to print the main body. The cap was only 2 hours, ran out of PLA (YAY!!) during the first layer, and finished it with ABS. Because of all the stringing between the two vanes, i sanded and painted it green. The small blue turbine to right was my first turbine, printed in sections, and the larger one on the left was my second, sectional turbine. I will print another one piece turbine out of ABS, only this time it will be light weight. The two large models were created with the intention of using 3/8"x1/4" flanged bearings, but the green one was so heavy, I found, and used a 5/8"x1/4" flanged bearing instead at the bottom.
