First print.. didn't go as planned.

Post by bauf »

So i tried to first print the peek mount like explained in the manual.. but it turned out crappy from the first layer.. so i found a test print to try out.. and this is how it came out, oh,i had to stop it halfway cus the filament got stuck.
I downloaded the config file for the slic3er settings, and i used PLA as i didn't buy ABS. The temp was set at 200°c.

Is is too low temp, or is it the flowrate?

looks like a calibration issue, nozzle seems a bit high from the print. Also check you ectruder e steps to make sure it ok.

hm, yeah, looks like the nozzle was a little bit too high. i tried to measure with a piece of paper and it didn't grab that much.
I have a feeler gauge i can use instead, but what distance is should i look for? like, 0.4- 0.5mm?
The e-steps looked about right, i marked 100mm and then told it to extrude 100mm, and it stopped right on the spot.

ok, i just checked with a feeler gauge and it is 0.20mm/ .008inch.
hm.. that's weird then.. are there some settings in the slic3er that change the hight of the nozzle on the first layer or something?

I also had bizzare issues with my first print. I would go over the calibration again...

Check your mechanics that the arms can move freely etc...

Also some people say that black filament was just a little bit trickier to print with ao if you have any other filament give that a go.

holy sh¤t.. after a lot of frustration of fu#ked up prints, i tried Cura instead of Repetier-Host.. and the first print comes along MUCH better... dunno what was up with rep.host.. but cura is working awesome! finally :D

ok, so i have done 2 so far. The fan mount came loose a couple of minutes before the end.. But from these pictures, what can you guys tell me?
Am i wrong if i said the temperature was too high? I had the nozzle temp @ 185°c for the PLA

I think that fan housing is best to be done with ABS as it will be subject to heat.

So im guessing you havent hooked up the PEEK fan yet?

go find a fan of some description. your corners are bending inwards and up because either generally your setup/build area is too warm and or the PLA is not cooling well enough. PLA as far as I know can take as much air you can throw at it for crisp results.

ooh, ok. yup, a fan would be my second guess :p Yeah, i've ordered some ABS for the peek fan mount, that print was just a test to see if i could make it.
I'll try to place a fan on the next print and see. Thanks! :)

Your going to have issues printing PLA without a peek fan, it will jam.
What you can do is get a larger fan and have it blow across the build surface, you don't need a huge amount of airflow, just something to disturb the air around the peek section of the Hotend.
You'll also want to get as much part cooling as you can when printing PLA, you can probably go a bit cooler, depending on the PLA. And your actual temperature (you should verify with a thermocouple). The PLA I use is best behaved in the 180-190 range, but I've seen filament where parts of it will not print under 230.

Oh... I mistake PEEK with layer fans. I don't have one that points down. :)

too bad there's no peek fan mount with the kit :p or maybe my mistake for buying only PLA and T-Glase. But will try to have table fan or something to cool it down.

Prints are getting better, but maybe up the heat on the nozzle a little bit more to get the first layer lines more together?
this is PLA on 215°c and 60°c. and 0.2mm layer hight.

You could try increasing overlap a little bit.

Or as another member did, lie about your nozzle diameter.
