Cura Engine in Repetier Host slicing but no gcode on .5mm cu

Post by Fiddler2070 »

So I click slice with Cura Engine in Repetier Host and it slices but when I looked at the gcode, there are no gcode for layers. I get the number of layers but all they have is ";layer 1". There is no gcode to go with that layer. It goes like that for the layers.

It seems cura engine can't do 0.5mm walls. This was for the hollow calibration cube with no top or bottom from thingyverse calibration collection.

I thought that might be the case so I sliced a solid box and sure enough it sliced with gcode. Anyone know if there is a setting to change to get it to slice something that thin?

But slicer worked fine and I got an average of 10.12 mm vs the 9.95 mm for the layer total so 1.7% over. Is it possible to tune that or is 1.7% over setting layer height as good as I can expect?

To print the hollo calibration cube, you want to slice a solid cube with one perimeter, no infill and no top layers. Rather than starting with a hollow cube.
If you start with a hollow cube, it's hard to guess what the slicer actually does, since you specify the wall thickness else where, and it might be bigger than the wall in the model. Most slicers don't respect thickness of very thin walls, but they will respect extrusion thickness on a perimeter.
Having said that I don't think Cura lets you specify the extrusion thickness explicitly and I don't know what calculation it uses to derive it from the nozzle setting, I think it's just one to one, but I have no way to know for sure.

Thanks polygonhell, interesting technique. I can tell that that info only comes from deep experience.
