Australian Filament Suppliers

Post by forrie »

Hey all,

Just curious who the Aussies purchase their filament from. I got my first ever batch from BilbyCNC, which turned up eventually....

I'm getting close to running out and I'm looking for someone else to try.

3dprintergear.com.au have 20% off at the moment so might give them a go....

also

modfab.com.au have pretty cheap filament (and they sell the Max v2....woohoo!)

Who do you use?

Bought a tonne of filament with the printer and haven't had to buy more yet, but Bilby was bookmarked for next purchase. McSlappy is flogging the flash stuff now too. I'm waiting to see whether I upgrade to an E6D or custom hot end for nylon before I buy any more, it could be bulk trimmer line if that's the case!

Thanks for the plug Starfish :)

I'm in the process of getting a line of economy filament to complement the flash stuff, but it wont arrive for a few more weeks I'd say - it takes time to test and be happy with an import :)

I've heard that Bilby is very good with any issues you might have with filament so they seem like a safe purchase, they also have an excellent variety!

That's cool to find out about modfab, I thought I was the only one selling the Max in Oz :)
I loved my Rostock so much I now sell them in Oz :)

I was a little shocked when I saw that too.... Here I was losing sleep over $1550. You know though, even $2800 for a printer available in Oz isn't a high price, perhaps they're banking on no one importing their own?

Anyway my economy filament came in and I'm pretty stoked that it's the same as the stuff I was sent as samples (again more sleepless nights worrying that they'd just swap out the good sample for dodgy stuff). If any Aussies would like a few metres to play with, just send me an email at [email protected] and I'd be happy to send some to you. I'm pretty pleased with it :)

I use Mankati that I usually get from eBay.

It works really well at standard temperatures and I am happy with results so far.

Well, after getting excited about the bulk spool of trimmer line I just bought off FleaBay for my E3d: it turned up today and after some scratching of the head I realised I'd confused myself. Ended up dropping $20 on a crappy 250g spool. Sigh.

Has anyone managed to get the Amazon Maxpower stuff into Oz? Or anyone got a decent source of cheapo nylon trimmer line we can use?

At the moment it's suddenly not looking like a so-cheap alternative after all. :(

I'm about to go sniffing through the old man's fishing gear...

:UPDATE: Once again, I managed to demonstrate that I'm an idiot and that Amazon do indeed deliver their bulk spool to Australia if you have the right account details.
