colorFabb Bronzefill
colorFabb Bronzefill
So, I bought some colorFabb Bronzefill to play with. I tried squirting it at my normal PLA settings except for temperature. I went from 210C to 220C since I could tell that I needed more pressure to push the material thru my hotend (disregarding what it says on the box). All I got was some filament to spit out periodically and then a jam. I'm running this through a stock SeeMe hotend. Has anyone else tried this stuff? Any secret settings?
Re: colorFabb Bronzefill
I want to try that, but to many other things going on right now. I'll be glad to follow along thou.

Re: colorFabb Bronzefill
I was told it printed very easily thru a .4 nozzle without clogging. I'll check with Matt real quick and get back with you....

Matt said he didnt see anything wrong with your settings and that you can contact him at Printedsolid.com or e mail the colorfabb support.
I print with the color fabb stuff all the time (but havent tried the bronze fill yet) and never had to go over 190 to get it to print with any hot end. I wonder if you might have some ooze between the ptfe liner and nozzle causing your problem?? Higher speeds at lower temps has caused this problem several times for me in the past. decreasing the temp or increasing the speed has been the cure for pla for me.

Re: colorFabb Bronzefill
I bought this stuff from printedsolid.com, by the way. I am printing through a .35mm nozzle, 40mm/s, with .2mm layer heights. If I get a little time today I would like to try it again. I have other colorFabb stuff at home that I print on my FlashForge and I don't have to change a thing. I use my standard PLA settings. However, I haven't used bronze fill before. I thought perhaps the Rostock might be slightly different so I thought I would ask first before I dive into it myself.
Re: colorFabb Bronzefill
What size nozzles are on your other printers? I know Matt (printedsolid) has burned thru several rolls of this stuff and the only thing I head him say about it is that he needs to find a better, faster way to polish it. He ordered some polishing media for the vibratory tumbler to try out, but dont think he has recieved it yet. Ill have to poke Matt with a stick and see if I can get a sample to try out. He usually gives me new stuff when it comes out to test on the rostock.
And just so there are no secrets, I work for printedsolid, I do the metal castings for him, and he lives just up the street a bit from me. Even If I didnt work for him I would still say the colofabb filament is my favorite stuff to print with.

Re: colorFabb Bronzefill
The nozzle on my FF is a .4mm. I squirt colorFabb woodfill through that just fine. Never a clog. Prints turn out great. If I can get this bronzefill stuff working well then I think I'll order the copperfill next. I really don't have any applications for this metal filled stuff. I'm just curious. On the other hand, I print small brackets from time-to-time out of ABS and PLA. I wonder if metal fill will be stronger for stuff like that. I was surprised how heavy this bronzefill was. Makes sense, I guess.
Re: colorFabb Bronzefill
Now I have run the wood filled, very cool stuff. I was running it thru the E3D V5 .4mm nozzle and every once in a while I did get a clogg, went to the .5mm nozzle and never a problem.

Re: colorFabb Bronzefill
I contacted Matt from printedsolid and he replied. He gave me some things to try. Perhaps a .35mm nozzle is too small. I'll try a test cube again and see what happens. If that doesn't work then I'll try my stock .5mm nozzle. I have an E3Dv6 but I was getting PLA jams with it so I switched back to the stock SeeMe hotend. My E3D has the stock .4mm nozzle on it. I suppose I could try that hotend but it would take me longer to switch things out.
I need to pick up a small Harbor Freight tumbler for this stuff.

Re: colorFabb Bronzefill
sicne this thread was made, I just started a print using it.. stock (except made from clear acrylic) orion.. standard .5 nozzle.. printing at .2 layers at 205c with a 63c bed.. coming out nicely... I'm running at 30mm/sec as I always do, but its looking great.. will post results when done in a few hrs

Re: colorFabb Bronzefill
Yeah, I'm not sure what I was doing wrong the first time around but the second time around things just worked. I lowered the temperature to 200c like Matt from printedsolid recommended and I bumped up the layers from .2mm to .24mm on my own. 50c heated bed. 40/mms. Sliced a 20mm cube with MatterControl and away it went. No trouble this time and that's even with a .35mm nozzle and stock SeeMe hotend (that you built for me, Guanu).
I can't get over the weight of the part. It's heavy like metal and sounds like metal when I drop it on a table yet it crushes easy like PLA naturally would.

Re: colorFabb Bronzefill
on the e3d hot ends with pla jamming....either increase speed or decrease temps. One pla I have I have to print at 170c so it doesnt jam and thats at 40mm/sec... Glad Matt got you straightened up

Re: colorFabb Bronzefill
Ill take note of those E3D recommendations. Seems like when I went cooler the Ezstruder started skipping.
Re: colorFabb Bronzefill
If your talking colorfabb pla, then try 195. Cheap ebay stuff 185 or lower works best for me. Never had a problem with the colorfabb jamming in the e3dv5, other pla's however.....heathenx wrote:Ill take note of those E3D recommendations. Re: colorFabb Bronzefill
well print complete... 0.2 layers 30mm/sec, 15% infill, sliced with matterslice... 205c hotened 63c bed
model printed: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:23345
and this pic is pre-polishing, I plan on polishing the bronzefill up and see what results that gets, but that will be for another day..

Re: colorFabb Bronzefill
@guanu, well done!
@DaveF, I've only run PLA from two sources through my E3D, SeeMeCNC and Filament Central. I'd like to try some PLA/PHA from colorFabb though. I prefer printing PLA most of the time but would love something a bit stronger. I print ABS and Nylon too but not as much.
Anyway, here's my latest bronzefill print vs my woodfill print. The woodfill print came off of my FlashForge at home while the bronzefill came off of my Rostock at work. The bronzefill is rougher only because I chose to print it rougher. Can't wait to polish it.
