Keeping your ABS model from curling

Post by Magiczz »

I scan people then make plastic models that are later bronzed or gold leafed. I found that ABS looks best at high rez . I print with a .35 nozzle. My biggest issue to overcome was that the shoulders tend to curl up and the model can actually rock off the plate.

I came up with a good way to keep this from happening however.

Locktight putty or plastic wood putty. these products come in a tube and you take a pinch off of it and kneed it to a uniform color.

make sure you have painters tape or similar to protect your build plate. Print your model then pause the print about 1/4 inch into the build then kneed some putty into a long thin snake. wedge it around the base of the model. this stuff cures like concrete really fast especially on a heated plate.

resume print :)
