Broken(ish) Upper Tower Mount

Post by drwho »

When taking the Upper Tower Mounts out of the big melamine sheets we noticed that one was broken. It was on the back and so we didn't see it upon first inspection. We're wondering whether this will effect the performance of the printer. Would you use this Upper tower mount or get a replacement and then resume building? Thanks for your help! I attached a picture for your review.

Either you're concerned that your upper tower mount is incredibly fuzzy, or your picture is out of focus. I'm guessing it's the latter (otherwise your fingers are also strangely fuzzy).

It vaguely looks like there's a split parallel to the surface; is that the problem?

As I recall, the upper mounts are kind of a pain to install and remove. If you want to replace this one I'd contact SeeMeCNC and get a replacement on the way. Then I'd build as much as I could until the replacement arrived.

fuzzy picture, but it looks delaminated. Myself, I would squirt some CA (hobbygrade super glue) in there, and clamp it together. If I were to build another SeeMeCnc Rostock, I would soak all of the areas that require a 6-32 nut with the thin CA. It would soak in to the melamine, and prevent it from coming apart if you get to aggressive with the screws.

Yes there is a spilt in the melamine. The concern is it getting worse with use. And I'm not sure but could it cause problems with leveling or other unforeseen circumstances.

Using CA should repair the part.

I don't think CA would work to reinforce the nut pockets - the cutting process may create an impermeable barrier to the CA.
