Howdy everyone. Yes, I'm in TX, I get to use "howdy" with impunity.
Recently bought/built/and am building parts as I type this, with my new fancy Rostock Max v2! Received the package about a month ago, been building parts for last ~2 weeks.
I read this forum pretty much from top to bottom prior to purchase...it was actually the Mario Bros and Imperial March songs playing on the Rostock that finally tipped me over to purchase. Silly reason? NO, those songs were awesome!
I am pretty familiar with all various types/methods/materials of rapid prototyping as I am a mechanical design engineer for day job...and I cannot help myself but to design parts at home too...but finally decided on Rostock for all the variety of good reasons on this forum. Yes, I read and viewed even the bad reviews before deciding. I am still very convinced, especially after several successful ABS prints, and currently 1/2 thru first PLA print, that the Rostock is without doubt the best bang-for-bucks, and I was really looking forward to building it myself, which did not disappoint.
I knew exactly what I was getting into thanks to all of y'all (I get to use "y'all" with impunity too), and I knew it would not be perfect, I knew there would be calibration boredom, etc...I knew all of these things. But after getting it all up and running, I actually had almost zero issues! The only problems I had could be summed up as:
During assembly, several parts were hard for me to detect the subtle asymmetry, such as the CheapSkate inner/outer plates.
I got the 2nd up from bottom and 2nd down from top main platform piece clocked incorrectly, again due to asymmetry that did not appear obvious to me.
Wiring stuff makes me nervous...I am truly a mechanical engineer...and in college, I was almost murdered on several occasions by our student-built electric/solar car...long story(s)...
One of my XYZ stepper motor belt gears had 18t instead of required 20t (fixed that thanks to very helpful postings on this forum!).
Really that was it...build/setup/firmware/slicing, all of that was amazingly easy. No regrets about the purchase and time spent so far, as as I am sure all of you know, it is soooooo sweet to think --> CAD --> squirt out of the machine --> hold parts in your had all in a few hours.
Thank you all so much for the great community of users, free advice/support, and great examples of how to do things. I would have made this choice without y'all, and I am very happy I did!
Also, if anyone needs any help with Solidworks, Proe Wildfire(s), Creo 1.0/2.0, I am very well versed with these CAD packages, so if I can help answer any questions, please let me know.
Brian.
