Thin layer issue
Good evening folks... First off, i know im asking a lot of questions... Just tell me to Pound Sand if it gets to be too much.. Im just very new to this, LOVE my rostock n roll but am obviously still tweaking it.
So ive eyeballed it with guanus method but apparently its not perfect..
take a look at the pic below... left is X right is Y, back is Z.
It looks like the Z side outer wall is a VERY thin layer, while the Y is thicker.
yet the X is thick, but just a short distance away is thin.
Im really confused by this. the level of the bed shows that its good. ive adjusted tower stop screws..
any ideas?
thanks in advance

look at this garbage.

then the odd thickness to the Y axis on the right... like 3x thicker just at the edge...

Re: Thin layer issue
ok... so i i found my bed was slightly off level.. so i shimmed up a little bit with foil.
seems to be much better...
recalibrated the Z height again, and it mostly appears to be doing well... a few little bumps here and there...

Re: Thin layer issue
printing again, and overall much better. a LITTLE thinning in the Y axis corner, but i think i can adjust the stop screw down to not let it be so close to the glass.
but then as it finished the first layer, it really started depositing more in the back corner around 2 o clock towards the z axis.
any idea what might be causing that?
also, noticing a lot of little nicks in the top layer, little pointing scraggly bits of plastic..

Re: Thin layer issue
I actually just posted a vid on this... though I'm not sure it would help in this instance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbX5Ilmc8m0
Looking at your layers, I'm guessing that there might be some mechanical issue in addition to any out-of-level issue you've got. Have you checked all your u-joints individually? Take the arms off one by one and make sure the u-joints move freely. If one or two don't, get some light oil (to lubricate them)
In addition it might be worth slightly raising the nozzle zero point and thickening the first layer extrusion slightly.

I loved my Rostock so much I now sell them in Oz

Re: Thin layer issue
I will try a couple things there... the case actually turned out pretty good in the above image..
i am now trying to figure out how to eliminate the little burrs i get often... maybe its the fact that there is build up on the nozzle as i print.. not sure how to fix that yet.
thanks

Re: Thin layer issue
You might be over extruding. Make sure you've got your e-steps nailed down.

Re: Thin layer issue
ok, so i looked at my e steps...
turns out i was just over 2mm off per 100... which could certainly cause that.
of course now my extruder knob is loose enough that it wont extrude by hand.. gotta print a new one i guess haha

Re: Thin layer issue
so as im printing out my new knob. the first layer (obviously thicker) had very serious extrusion issues... some bumps, some burs and an area with more plastic..
but as soon as the second layer got started, and covered it up... all went away...
Not the end of the world, but id like to get it figured out... its only on the first layer..
any thoughts?

Re: Thin layer issue
so the knob ended up coming out PERFECTLY even after the first layer issue.
So now im printing a iphone case again and i did first layer .5mm and width 1mm as per some instructions ive seen.
just a terrible first layer.. tons of burs and bumps etc... they seem to be very concentrated as far opposite the Z tower as the print goes... everything seems normal though
but its TERRIBLE
