My Rostock Max V2 was seemingly randomly rebooting itself in the middle of printing maybe every 10 prints or so. It would be humming along fine, sometimes for minutes, sometimes for 15 hours when BOOM, the firmware would just cycle, the print head would stop, and then you would see the nice intro screen show up... GRRRR... Obviously this would tend to occur right in the middle of a large print.

I initially thought that maybe the controller board was heating up so I took off some of the bottom plates to facilitate better airflow. I noticed that the air in the chamber wasn't even warm so I threw that idea out. I then assumed that maybe my incoming power wasn't stable or that the printer was overly sensitive to power fluctuations or that maybe my power supply was defective... this has gone on for 6 months.
SOLUTION: UNPLUG THE USB CABLE

I had always had my USB cable connected to my Mac even when printing via the printer's SD card slot. I started to notice that my printer reboots were coinciding with launching unrelated applications... once again while printing from the onboard SD card. The last bout of reboots were continuous as the printer would reboot every 10 secs or so. I tried unplugging the USB cable during this episode and it promptly stopped rebooting. One of the offending apps was the most recent release of Adobe Photoshop which now has 3D printing features... ahah!! It seems that some applications query the USB port for printers (or something else..who knows) and will cause the RMAX's onboard firmware to REBOOT while printing from the SD Card!!!! Well obviously this is not expected behavior but at least it's now avoidable. I now keep the printer unplugged unless I want to control it from the computer. Thought this might help someone.

Thanks
