Snow Ball Maker - support/bridging... help please

Good evening folks... So i made a snowball maker today... as you can see from the first picture there was a little support used to prop up the sides as it was about 4-5 degrees, definately needed.. that part worked great.

2nd image shows the bottom of the bowl of the hole/lack of bridging

So in essence. THere was support in the right spots, but there was no support done on the inside to prop up where the hole is.... I am having MASSIVE issues with bridging... Would you guys please share any settings, or tidbits on how to get that working right? The bridge only had to cover about 1 inch...


thoughts? As you can see the rest of the print was near perfect... Im jazzed at how i have the printer dialed in..

mattercontrol using matterslice.
i think i had even worse bridging when using slicer inside mattercontrol.
Ive had major issues with inconsistencies (with not just bridging) with repetier...
i very much like MC

And I keep going back to repetier, and slic3r. I think the biggest improvement you can make in bridging is by slowing it down. I'm currently set at 20 mms, with cooling. Currently trying to print the Eiffle Tower, with no supports. This could be a mess.

i definately need to look at the settings more... slow it down for sure, and try to figure out if i can cool ONLY during bridging...
or do you guys cool abs through layer fan too? or just PLA? this was printed with abs.

I use the layer fan with abs, It depends upon the situation. for bridging, I definitely use the layer fan. I'm not sure if the fan comes on by default for bridging, but in slic3r you can adjust the fan speed for bridging. I have no idea off hand how Mattercontrol handles it.

ill take a look... with ABS what would a reasonable bridge be?
i know with PLA you can do much better bridges...
so yeah, ABS what should my max bridge be? or a good one?

Cura used to have an option to produce support "everywhere" vs outside only, since matterslice is based on Cura's slicer, it may have a similar option. KissSlicer would also put support under the bowl. In ABS Removing it is usually not that bad, involves some time with a pair of pliers.

so the support that it printed for the outside part of this print just popped off with a fingernail.. perfect...
So, im running a bridging test now with fan on 100% and 10mm/s during bridging and its spanning 1.7 inches with ease... so i can totally make the bowl work with the new parameters... Just didnt realize it had to be printed SOOO slow.
i really want to get a new layer fan housing.. the one as part of the kit (recomended) doesnt target well enough, it just blows at the base, not at the area where the nozzle comes out.

I run three. After trying to print a cylindrical part with grooves, I went to three fans so all three sides would get cooling.

so the second print of this mold went much the same way... except this time i watched it print... as it was getting to point where it should be bridging , about 4 layers before that it started injecting in to the middle just spewing it out as if there was support/a base there. of course it was just putting it in to lala land...
so again, im not sure if the slicer is just screwing up that part or not... my guess is if i put support on inside there, its going to screw it up again...
im at odds on what to do here... although i did find the support option for inside... this particular print isnt slicing right, and its WAY too big to keep trying it..

You HAVE to put support there, or it won't work.

The slicer will slice whatever you tell it to. In this case, you told it to slice some layers with nothing below it. Sometimes you can get away with a couple small points like that, but usually you must work around it.

Always preview the layers in cura to avoid this.

you are right.. in this case i should have looked to see what it was going to do... i guess i had just assumed it would know it had no support, and slice it accordingly to just bridge it across there... its not that far of a bridge... i did a test print that worked out just fine... Ill set one up to print overnight with bridging inside there and see how it works.

so it printed out great, although it was VERY hard to get that support out of there, but its workable.. thank you
