Best PLA & ABS for Rostock Max V2?

I know a lot of members scorn ebay filaments, but so far, all but one of my rolls of PLA and ABS have been bought from this seller for $20 or less per 1kg roll

Please let us know your feelings about this filament, we have heard a lot of the good but none of the bad. Just an honest eval would tell us if we should also be buying it.

So far, the only snag I've hit with their rolls was toward the end of a tall Wolf incense burner I was printing.

It made it all the way to the head, and there was a thick portion of filament, no longer than 2 inches, that had 3 little air bubbles in it. It was just thick enough to jam the cold end and stop feeding filament through the hotend.

I swore a bunch, stomped my feet, and started the print over with the better model that I wanted to print anyway! It came out great!

I tried printing with the translucent purple,,, and evidently when they say to print btween 210-230C, they mean it. At 240C it gets all "sparkly" and plugs the tip. The solid orange appears to print like a champ at 270C. I'll wait until this weekend to try the hips,,,,,, and like the purple, it has a label on it stating what temperature to print at.

Their recommended temp for hips is 180-200C. One nit I have so far, is where they start winding the spool,,, it is inside the bore of the spool, so unless you trim it, or have a special spool holder made up, it catches on the spool holder.

Best I have used to date is GizmoDorks for both ABS and PLA (used 6 or 7 spools by now) through Amazon Prime. About $27 per kg. Free Shipping and for me next day delivery.

No runs, no drips, no errors - But your mileage may vary.

I ordered PLA blue off their website and it was free shipping. Takes a little longer, but if you have time and getting a few spools, it will save you a few bucks. It's like a $1 cheaper then Amazon right now. Does depends on how bad you need it.

I currently printing the PLA straight onto the glass with no adhesive assistance. Hotend at 200-210C and Hotbed at 55-60C. Pretty happy with the results so far. I want to order more from them, but would like to wait til a sale or discount comes along. Does anyone know if there discounts if I was to purchase multiple spools in one order?

What is the best filament to print Clear pieces with? I have the Rostock Max v2. Any details and/or tips to printing a really clear part?

Some of the Taulman nylons like TGlase are close to clear. Natural ABS is opaque white. Not sure about how clear PLA gets, but it often comes in translucent colors, so probably closer to clear than ABS.

It's PET not Nylon and it's completely optically clear. That's why its T-Glase

Just got my first spool of IC3D ABS (1.75mm red) yesterday. I've heard great things about their ABS and expect some good first prints.

I bought some orange last week from them,,,, and it does print nice, even takes high temperatures without clogging the nozzle.

Very first print using 1.75mm red IC3D ABS filament with a freshly recalibrated Rostock Max V1 (Trick Laser arms, E3D V5 hotend w/ 0.4mm nozzle). Printed to 3M permanent glue stick on 85C bed, 230C hotend temp, 0.46 default extrusion width, and 0.15mm layers. Amazed at how good it turned out with zero tweaking to the settings for the new filament.

20mm calibration box measured 20.01x19.95x9.94mm.

IC3D ABS is definitely running pretty good. Here is a small 25x25x6mm block at 100% infill. Other details: E3D V5 w/ 0.4mm nozzle, 0.2mm layer height, ran really slow at 10 mm/s, sliced using KISSlicer.

So far I've had the best most consistent results with Octave filament.
(Plus, they're in Northern California, so I usually get it in two days.)

Their ABS filament seems to handle temperature fluctuations really well, with minimal swelling during temp swings.

I've recently been trying out ToyBuilderLabs ABS filament, and their white abs is very very white. It's gorgeous.
However their filament is alot more sensitive to temp fluctuations, so if your temps are varying by +/-5c, it will show up in the print definitely, as it tends to swell more at higher temperatures.

However another habit I've gotten into is to bake any new spool of filament at 170f for 4-8 hours to get rid of any residual moisture.
I do this for every spool, and I seem to get more consistent results because of it.

Has anyone else had good experience with the Octave fillament? I'm leaning towards giving it a try but can't find a whole lot of information on the quality.

ColorFABB is excellent PLA as is Ultimachines. I have also purchased 35+ spools of PLA and ABS from faveprices on eBay when I need a special color (they have a fantastic selection) and they have been good, solid filaments.

I have been testing quite lots of filament before launching our own. The conclusion is, use a filament that is easy to print with, a filament that you like, in term of colors and outcome. When you have found one that fill up your requirements then go for that brand.
