So after leaving a million hints that I wanted a Rostock Max V2 for Christmas, I was surprised that my "beautiful wife" bought it! Now I wont lie and say it was a surprise, after all we have the same checking account....
After seeing the SeeMeCNC "purchase" i started sourcing the required parts to make a successful build without delay. I also picked up the nema 17 dampers as I didnt want to tear it down afterwards.
I took my time and used a micrometer on everything, from the heated plate install to the end stop screws. That appeared to make the calibration smooth and yes, I should of bought a lottery ticket for the bed calibration.
This is my first print and fail. I cut a length of ABS filament instead of using the whole spool. Needless to say, It wasn't enough and I found out you cant just "add" more to the extruder because the retract doesn't work..
I think my temps are a bit high because I'm hearing a little popping every now and then from the nozzle. Some reason 228c made it's way into the material type and I didn't catch it on the start but let it run anyways.
You can see a little curling on the ends and little bits of erroneous markings on the edges. Overall I'm please but lowing the temp to 220c on the one printing now. I don't hear as much popping so we'll see.
Also, I did have the complete machine turn off during the first time I used the LCD to adjust the Z. It was right before the temps hit 200 and 50 for the bed. I hope it was a fluke as I see a lot of power supply issues with Diablotek DA600's

The little popping sounds are most likely air bubbles in the filament.

Gotcha. We'll I do hear a bit less but that very well could be my imagination or maybe because I'm a bit further into the spool of filament.
So much to learn...

Looking good! Lets hope the shut-off isn't anything major. I don't think its too late to buy a lottery ticket just yet, you never know!
Re: X-mas Rostock Max V2
For a first print, that's actually quite nice. ABS tends to do a fair bit worse on overhangs, so you almost always get those little hanging bits on those side holders.
As Mac mentioned, those are likely air bubbles in the filament. You don't want to lower the temperature too much as you won't get decent layer adhesion with ABS. I know I get the popping too on occasion, but I try and print fairly hot with ABS.
The little blemishes on the surface can be a number of things, but they're typically associated with changing to the next layer height. It's just the nature of things on some prints. I don't get what makes them worse on one print but barely noticeable on another.

Hate to say it but I'm getting a lot of random shutdowns when the nozzle and bed heat up together. power supply issue? Once they are up to temperature it seems to run fine.
Re: X-mas Rostock Max V2
wow, great customer service. Sending out a new power supply!
