Duel hot end question

Post by jdurand »

I have a Chimera on order and was wondering about the operation of dual hot ends. Specifically, how are the heaters powered since two 40W heating elements in use at once is above the amperage of the fuse. Is only the active head heated or something sneakier like keeping the idle head warm with whatever spare PWM cycle* is left from the active head?

* ie: active head being heated with a 70% duty cycle, idle head heated with 30%.

Also, anyone know when in the 1st qtr the Chimeras will ship? Well, anyone willing to say?

this depends on the slicer on how things heat up. with s3d I'm pretty sure it gets everything up to temp one at a time, then maintains. when a single nozzle is not in use you have the option to lower its temperature.

The wiki for the RamBo board does say you can replace the 5 amp fuse for a 10.

I have a 10A fuse in mine, you might get away with the 5A if you preheat the nozzles independently.

Thanks, I'll update the fuse when the dual head arrives.

I keep forgetting this is Arduino based, I'm used to working with more conventional gear where things like load sharing are considered.
