Blinking LED and LCD on Rostock MAX v2

Post by nofed »

I was wonder if anyone else has had this problem and how they fixed it. I have been following the assembly guide and got to the point of calibrating the Z height and that went well, but the next morning I went to turn on the machine and LED 1 and LED 7 and the LCD were blinking (as I've tried to show in the youtube video). Any thoughts? video 1 = http://youtu.be/y-dPOD2uKi8 video 2 = http://youtu.be/r3d-5BkBruc

Since the Green LED on the top left of the Rambo is flashing in sync (along with everything else) I think that you may have a wiring short that shows up as the Rambo boots up and energizes it downstream circuits. This may be causing the P/S to crowbar off which resets the Rambo, which removes the short, which rests the P/S on and the cycle starts again. It could also just be a P/S that has an internal problem.

I would recommend removing the output connections from the Rambo and determining if it will start and hold itself on. If it will examine all the wiring for issues or add back one circuit at a time.

This is a little strange since the Rambo tends to be rather well fused and almost any down stream problem tends to open one of the three fuses (take my word for this, the details are depressing). If the Rambo continues to cycle the culprit is like the P/S.

Hope this helps, I know nothing about electricity beyond changing batteries in my TV Remote and it can sometimes take a lot of iterations to get them all facing the correct way.

Thanks for the reply. I will try your suggestions tonight (hopefully).

The only other thing I did that is not in the offical manual was to set one of the MAX temps in the .ino file to 128, as suggested in other forum posts, to get the autotune PID to work. So when I changed that value and reloaded the .ino file did that not erase the first file? Is it possible to load the Repeteir.ino file to the rambo twice (on top of each other), thereby overloading the memory on the device and causing it to act funny?

I don not know, I always erase the EEPROM before reloading the firmware.

Something I forgot to mention. Each time the blink happens, there is a sound like a tiny spring being flicked. On a related note, I took wires out of the rambo one by one and the problem still occurs, and there is also the spring flicking sound coming from the power supply. I'm at a loss as to what this is. "Bad" power supply? How?
