Advice needed for design

Hi,

my RMV2 printer is currenty on its way at the Frankurt Customs department..


Anyhow, i have started designing parts for my new project.

I would be happy if somebody can give my advice if my design is printable or not, or where the problems are.

A STL file is attached.

As you can see the i have designed the infill to suite my needs best. It is a wing section for an (hopefully flying) RC model.
Dimensions are about 200x200mm, material shall be ABS.

I know that all holes are likely to be need rework.
I have created the infill in 3d design, since i need ares that are solid, and some with a very low fill grade.

I am unsure if i want to print this thing flat or upright.

I assume that flat is the best option. My fear is that i will have trouble with bridging the top layer (when printed flat).

If i print upright, i might have problems with the infill on the profile ending.....

IMO, try printing it upright. It's a large piece. If your printer isn't calibrated well(hopefully it will be ) you might have issues out at the edged of the build area. I also think the layering in that orientation would make it stronger. It will require some support under the pointed piece. As for infill, if it doesn't finish the top layer well, you could always cut it at some point and assemble it as two pieces. If you are planning on ABS, I would be very cautious of temperatures: both printing and build environment. An enclosure would help. In my experience, these kinds of parts will delaminate/layer crack easily. Best of luck! Post some pics when you succeed

I would approach it like this in ABS for the strength, toughness and ability to fuse the components together offered by the material.

I would add a bulkhead to each open end, print the two components and fuse together with acetone. After fusing a vapor polish over the entire structure would smooth up any layer lines and strengthen any weak layer to layer bonds. It will not repair layer delamination or splits. I find this works much better than supports.
