Strange new problem
So I am working on a 7x4 project and for whatever reason its just turning out like garbage. First, a picture of the problem.

So the fact that the bottom layer has gaps I immediately thought of e-steps. but i made my marks and extruded a perfect 100mm, against the 100mm i had marked.
I ran 100% extrusion width, 200 and 250, no help. I tried monkeying with the extrusion multiplier. All i know is I did the trex skull (and it turned out great) not 2 days ago with ABS and this is just printing like complete garbage...
just so happens i have a huge job too....
please help.
thanks

Wrong size nozzle or extrusion width in the slicer? Too far away from the bed?

Re: Strange new problem
not sure why this fixed it but im using a laptop at the printer now (so started cleaN) and that worked... not sure why i would have to restart my pc to get settings, or whatever, but it seems to be extruding properly now... so strange.

Re: Strange new problem
Definitely looks like it's too far from the bed on the first layer. That second layer looks good. That would indicate z0 is miscalibrated.
If restarting the print "fixed" it, I would check for any looseness in your belts, cheapskates, and effector. Any of those being loose will also cause this problem intermittently.

Re: Strange new problem
restarting the print didnt... changing machines i was sending the job to the printer did... its like all the calibrations tweaks etc , and it didnt like the print coming from a PC that didnt know about it... seems strange, but ill keep you all posted.. seems ok now... for now

Re: Strange new problem
so you did this print after the copper fill print that was starving?

Re: Strange new problem
yes... but i really think you were on to the copperfil issue... im actually tweaking my extrusion on this print as I go along... im at .92 and it seems to be good here... it was just some strange issue with my PC... nothing to do with calibration etc.
Re: Strange new problem
looking fwd to seeing how it comes out....

If you're printing from your computer, I believe the calibration data is applied as it's sent. So the other computer many have different calibration data.dunginhawk wrote:restarting the print didnt... changing machines i was sending the job to the printer did... its like all the calibrations tweaks etc , and it didnt like the print coming from a PC that didnt know about it... seems strange, but ill keep you all posted.. seems ok now... for now

Re: Strange new problem
What program are you using to control the printer from the laptop? Is it mattercontrol?

Re: Strange new problem
jdurand, exactly my issue.
so im back from a customer sat issue i had to resolve, and starting a new print (job). here is one of my best first layers ever.
it doesnt look like it necessarily, but its PERFECTLY smooth... so im going to see how it works out over the whole print. still having a problem getting small circle screw holes to not goop a little.
edit - yes mattercontrol.

Re: Strange new problem
so im not sure exactly whats happening, but its on its 10th layer (this part is 10 layers of 7x5 inches) then some around the edges, a large enclosure.. every layer im coming back with my hands and picking a few chunks that have formed... would that be indicative of over extrusion? would anything else really cause that issue? its building up a bit on the nozzle during moves etc and then depositing somewhere random...
thanks
