I second Michael's z height suggestion. If I'm not somewhat squashing the first layer then it's won't stick very well with hairspray on glass.

I'm back to my special "water-suggar-dishwashing liquid"-mix, but its not so cool, than just spaying on. But it sticks compared to the spray like hell, even with the way to cold bed.

PLA sticks so well to it even cold that it leaves die from the PLA on the bed, I literally have to use a paint scraper to remove the part.

UNSCENTED is all you should need. Anything with fragrances, has oils in it (that's where the pretty smell comes from

I'm using White Rain Extra Hold hair spray on borosilicate glass.
I heat up the bed to 80C and spray little puddles, enough to see through the puddles when it's dry.
Works much better than tape. Make sure the first layer is calibrated so that it's being pressed into the surface.
Having an air purifier in the room helps a lot with the weird smells (Whirlpool Whispure 250).

I use "got to be glued" hairspray on tape. Haven't tried it on just glass yet but im sure it will work. If you spray it on a glove it will stick to the wall. Good for a wide receiver too maybe.
Comes in a yellow can. My old lady says it's the best hairspray she's ever used. Price is good too.

Hello,
I have still no joy with hairspray. I tried 3 different ones, different spray thicknes, different spray methods (cold, warm, swiping). The last has similar ingredients to the known AquaNet, so I think the problem is somewhere else.
I tried bed temperatures from 100°C to 120°C (measured directly, the Onyx temperature sensor reports ~20K higher).
My ideal print temperature for the hotend is 220°C (what the PT100 reports, haven't measured the inside). Enough flow and little blobbs.
I increased it for the first layer up to 250°C.
First-Layer thicknes/calibration is pretty good.
Still only very little adhesion. It seams, like the ABS is not connecting with the spray.
ABS-Aceton-glue was much better (but this is not very nice to handle).
Any ideas where the problem is? What can I try?

In my experience hair spray is not too finicky on thickness of deposit (although I use the Less is More principle) or on application temperature. I run my hot bet at 70°C for ABS so maybe your temps are too high?
Could you post a photo of your sprayed bed at an acute angle? It might help see what's going on.

You can see the thin film of hairspray on the glass and a few paces where previous parts were stuck. I rarely clean the plate down to the bare glass, I just do a quick touch up spritz where a print may have removed some of the hairspray on the glass.
You can see the first layer going down and sticking well. The outside circle is the perimeter and even it started perfectly.

Maybe your not getting enough "squish" on that first layer? Maybe try increasing the "Z" length by 0.05 increments in the firmware till you get it to stick. What speed is your first layer?
I've had zero problem with the first layer sticking using hairspray on the glass @ 55*C, although I do need to try higher. Some larger prints have detached around the edges on me.

This is what it looks, when I spray an the warm bed: Very matte and a bit grainy.
This is what it looks like, when I spray on the cold bed, from 20cm distance: Just a bit matte. Mhackneys pictures shows probably something in between.
As you can see, it sticks a bit, but just the small Z-Lift is enough to remove the ABS. I tried ~90°C in this pictures.
With 75°C there was no lay down of the filament at all - all curled around the nozzle.
Sticking with higher temperatures gets a bit better. But I think this is only because of the adhesion of the more liquid ABS and no connection to the hairspray.
I print with 5mm/s (tried 10mm/s as well) and I think the first layer is squished down quite well.
Hotend was 245°C, with 250°C the ABS starts to get bubbles..

Wow, very odd problem. Firstly, it really looks like that first layer is very squished. I would start by decreasing the extrusion temperature. Back off to 235°, 230 and 225° and see if that helps. It is hard to tell from the photo (I clicked it to look at the bigger version) but your first payer may be too squished. Try increasing layer height or raising Z a bit.

I agree your first layer is too low, somewhat counter intuitively this can cause the plastic to roll off the bed rather than sticking to it.

Please believe, that I tried everything - the Z-height is not the issue.
I'm now using 1/3 Isopropyl alcohol and 2/3 beer and 125°C bed, and it sticks quite well, but could be better.
I found a post in the German Reprap forum, where an other user reports also sticking problems with the filament from the same supplier. (http://forums.reprap.org/read.php?238,1 ... msg-186990)

Chalk it up to experience I unfortunately. Have you tried printing on blueprints tape with it?
