No Power issues

Post by copperman »

I have created an issue I believe, in trying to even the bed temperature with a piece of aluminum I think it shorted across the +/- leads on the Onyx heated bed. Now I have no power when I flip the switch to turn the machine on. Where/is there a fused link that might have blown or need reset or did I do further damage?

There are 3 fuses on the RAMBo control board. An automotive blade type fuse is used for the heated bed. There are two tiny nano fuses for the motors/fans/electronics.

I think you have yanked the leads of the power switch.

Well, not sure what I did but today it has started up. I pulled the 3 fuses and checked them, all ok, then put them back in. Fired it up and am getting more even heat. Need more heat though, bed gets up to about 60 C and goes no higher, is there a place in the machine settings that holds this back or do I need newer components? This machine is one of the earliest Rostocks made.

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

Is the LED blinking or on steady. If it's on steady, check the voltage of your power supply while the heater is on (you can touch the screws in the Rambo power connector). If all that is good, unhook the bed wires and measure the resistance. A new bed should be about 1 ohm.

The earlier Rostocks had some underpowered power supplies.
The Corsair 750 modular is one of the most popular for upgrades.

If you are going to upgrade, just go with a 24v power supply dedicated to the bed.

But 60 is a bit low. Check the wires going to the bed from the rambo. Especially the rambo connectors.
While mine were failing the maximum reachable bed temp kept dropping every day. Last time it would only go to 50-60 and i noticed the connector was fried.

The light is staying on steady. Checked my heated bed for resistance, 1.6 ohms. The voltage feeding the bed is 10.4 volts. Hmmmm.....

An update, sent my machine in to the Awesome crew at Seemecnc and they debugged it and did an awesome job. Turns out the cooling fan for the Rambo board was cooling the bed down and my attempt to place an aluminum sheet on to help spread the heat was causing some shorts on the heated bed, need Kapton tape to protect. There were some other issues as well. heats up and prints like a dream. Andy Rocks!!

Thanks guys for all replies.
