e3d v6 blew fuse 3
e3d v6 blew fuse 3
Today I was installing my e3d v6 and as soon as I put power to the hot end fuse f3 blew. I have 10A fuses on order, however does any one have any idea what may have caused this?
Thanks, Rob
Thanks, Rob

Do you have quick change connections? Hope you didn't try plugging them in with the power on? or probably a short somewhere. Recheck all your wiring connections.

I did wire up quick connections. They were connected before the power was on. I'll check all the connections after the fuses get in considering the LCD doesn't work without f3.

Sounds like you have a short to me
Re: e3d v6 blew fuse 3
That or you are running 24 volts but purchased a 12v hotend.
Which should have become apparently anyway when reading the assembly docs when you got to the part about testing the heater's resistance.

yeah trying to find the short, not its the 12v end with the stock PS. It's really weird. I took out to quick connectors to make certain there wasn't a short there. Ill turn the hot end on it will heat at the default 150c but if I go to 151c it pops the fuse.
Does anyone have any ideas why this may be? Perhaps I mess up something in the firmware?

There is nothing you can do in the firmware that will blow F3.
Generally if it's a direct short then it would blow immediately, the fast it blows at temperature it's more likely that you have something metal expanding and causing the short.

Something is expanding and shorting out, I would guess it has to do with the resistors on the hotend.Kafka wrote:yeah trying to find the short, not its the 12v end with the stock PS. All I have to say is, Im dumb
.... Thought the two fan wires were separated enough with electrical tape but apparently not. They were shorted to each other...

Not dumb, simply hurried. People tend to tear through the build trying to get done as quick as they can. In the process simple mistakes can really cost them.
Look at it this way, the time you "waste" going slowly and methodically through the build is time you won't spend smashing your face against your desk trying to figure out what went sideways.

Haha yeah thanks gene, next time I will take my time. The next upgrade is the 24v PS for the bed (keeping the hot end at 12v)
