I think I am asking too much from my Max 2. I drew the body in solidworks so it is a viable stl file. ABS, 2mm layer height.

Nah, your not asking too much from it. You just need to learn to print a little better. Try going with a .1mm layer height and slow your print speed to 20 mm/sec.

I normally print ABS at 0.2mm layer height at 50mm/sec with very good results...
