Hello,
Great forum here. Just purchased a Rostock Max V.2 and should have it before next weekend. This is my first 3D printer; I was impressed with the delta design and the fact that the base is stationary. I've had some experience with Amada lasers used in fabrication and have found the stationary bed models to be more accurate over time when cutting round shapes. I'm also impressed with the number of free 3D modeling software available. Since I'm a Solidworks user, I hope to generate .stl files this way for my projects. I do have a few questions: what is the best software to use for setting up a new Rostock, and will it function as the slicer software as well? What is the preferred method for organizing the wiring into bundles so there are no loose wires to get caught on moving parts? Last, how delicate are the thermistors, they look extremely small and delicate?
Thank you,
Cris

Dan,
I'm over in Richland Hills, just down 820 from you. I just received my Rostock Max V2 today and am getting ready to assemble. Did the check list and removed all the laser cut parts from their imprisonment.
I ordered the black kit so had to peel all the paper from each piece, not sure if that is the procedure for a white model. Watched some good assembly videos on youtube last week, they were easy to fine, the author is up in Canada and is fun to watch. I learn quite a bit from his experience. What model of printer do you have, did you have to assemble it? This should be a great learning experience.

I got the Rostock Max V2 kit in black also. It is going together really well, nice close tolerance fitting lazer cut parts, the manual pdf does a real good job if you read every word and don't rush(bad habit of mine). Any flounders I've had so far was because I didn fully read each step. I've just installed the upright channels and it's really taking shape!!! Hopefully have it close to done this weekend, maybe even print something:-) My son is wanting some stuff for school, so I'm trying to stay on it, but life happens, haha!!! I still have to warm up Catia and get his project modeled too, doh!!!

Dan,
I made the mistake of having the wrong manual (Version 1.45 which I d/l'ed from this forum (all orange laser cut pieces). Got confused when my parts didn't match the photos. Finally found manual version 2.43 via googling in my web browser, funny thing is I couldn't find the latest manual on Seemecnc's website. Will start assembly tonight, bought a 40w heat cartridge and screw in thermistor for the hot end to avoid using high temp rtv (messy). I too bought the Kapton tape from Amazon, free shipping, $10 and change for 1/2" wide roll. What software do you plan on using for calibration and slicing?
thanks,
Cris

Re: New member in Fort Worth Tx.
I'm going to use MatterControl and have also picked up a MatterControl Touch. Save as stl from Catia and then Matter control does the gcode. Looks like it will work very simply. Haven't act printed anything yet, so simple is a relative word right now, haha!

Thanks for pointing me at the correct build manual
I'm pretty far along on the assembly, hope to be finished this upcoming weekend. So, Dan, you are going with the MatterControl software, how well does it do slicing?

Re: New member in Fort Worth Tx.
Yes, going to use MatterControl along with the MatterControl Touch tablet. I haven't actually printed anything yet, and have yet to slice anything either, I've just loaded .stl's into it, generated Gcode and placed them on the virtual print area. I'm still a few days out from any actual printing, last few weeks I've been sick and not too motivated, I probably have 2/3rds done with my build. Sat at the computer a bit last night and modeled the project for my son's school project though, so I'll have stuff to print once I'm done:)

Re: New member in Fort Worth Tx.
This is not meant to demean anyone but user redtank has a point about the manuals.
We have them in the official docs section, the Rostock Max section, the Rostock Max V 2 section, the Orion section.
It is difficult for a new user and even more experienced users to find the latest manual and I think this needs to cleaned up.
How is a new user know to go to http://seemecnc.com/pages/downloads to find the current version?

Re: New member in Fort Worth Tx.
Eagle, I went through the manual threads and clarified where to go for them. Let me know if you want more tweaks. Excellent point btw.

Re: New member in Fort Worth Tx.
Dan,
Have you gotten to the calibration part of your build? I'm in the process of doing mine and have run into a new term: Horizontal Radius. Looks like to get the center of the build plate even with the 3 towers, one has to adjust this setting in the
EEPROM.

Re: New member in Fort Worth Tx.
Yup, I finished calibration and have printed 3 successful prints: http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7569
Calibration took me some time to get my head around. Set zero Z, then each of the 3 limits, then the radius for bed center, then back through XYZ again quite a few times till all four hit the paper on the bed with some resistance. What got me first is that I tried to adjust each XYZ, then the center till it touched and realized everything was out again. You hav to adjust like the manual says 0.5 at a time on the radius, then XYZ again, then 0.5 on the radius, then XYZ again. If you just adjust the center bed till it touches all at once, without running through all 4 again it'll be way off.
Last night however I set it up to print a largish print for my son's school project, came back an hour later to see a pool of melted plastic
Was late so I didn't have time to troubleshoot anything, although I did have a "stepper disabled" code on the LCD, will figure it out tonight.

Dan,
I was working thru all the Horizontal Radius stuff this afternoon and when I got things where they needed to be I goofed up big time and hit a setting on the LCD menu that blew all I had away.... Stay away from 'Home Towers" under "Calibrate Z Height"....real bummer.
