Issues with first few layers of support sticking

Post by roybfr »

I like MatterControl and prefer to use it when I can but I have run in to issues when printing items that need support. The main issues I have when using support is getting the first layer of the support to stick. I am running PLA on blue painters tape sometimes with a coat of elmers adhesive, bed temp at 60deg. All the non support parts stick like mad. What seems to happen with the first support layers is not enough filament gets put down, possible due to retraction before those moves are made. Looking for any feed back that may improve those first few layers of support getting layed down well.

Have you tried changing the support type? I had bad luck with lines, changed to grid with 2.5mm pattern spacing with 1 layer z-gap and it works great for me. I print on glass with a light coating of hairspray at 70c for PLA.

You could lower the Retraction "Length on Move" I use 3mm with a E3D v6 hotend.
