Tricklaser Arms install

QUick question on the trick laser arms install... It says you want 37mm between the two lock nuts connecting the bottom arms to the nozzle housing. When i do that however i have 3-4mm of slop where that screw can move back and forth.. is that normal? or should i tighten it down? you would think if its able to move, it could do so at any time during your print.

You definitely want them tight. I haven't read the instructions, but here's what a proper install should look like:

strange. it doesnt say to put a copper washer there (on the bottom, it does on the carriage side) and it says 37mm between nuts which leaves slop.. im concerned haha

It should have the brass washers included. can you post a picture of the fit?

I made mine 37mm inside of Brass Washer to inside of brass washer, and there was no play on either the platform or the cheapskate mount.

ok. so i remeasured and its right now... 37mm... problem was stupid, somehow my calipers were off by about 2mm

smart guy i know.. these things certainly arent easy to put on thats for sure.

arms installed... hope to get a test print later.. but house of cards came out today, so probably not haha.

BTW i should have had brass washers against the bottom pieces, but i was shorted in the pack. no biggie.. it is still a tight fit, i dont think it will affect things

I think the measurement is mainly a guide to start from. When you're finished, the goal is to have the little brass washers tight against the plastic and parallel instead of canted.

A general question regarding the Tricklaser arms. How much will this improve slight imperfections over the V2 arms.

The V2 arms work well, but over time they do wear out. The Tricklaser arms, because of the ball joint connections, and the banding, will self compensate for any wear.

I didn't see a significant difference over the V1 arms near the center of the bed, they provide some additional stiffness near the outer part of the build surface, but I doubt it would make a significant quality difference.

In terms of wearing out I replaced my very early V1 arms a couple a couple of weeks ago, I lubricated the U Joints with lithium grease when I assembled them, I haven't touched them since, when I took them off none of the UJoints were frozen and the arms were still as good as when I put them on. So I can't really see wear being a significant issue.

The advantage that I installed them for is higher rigidity and less slop. If you can wiggle your hot-end and get any motion, that's lost precision that I didn't want.

The clip style arms were definitely an improvement, but I still like my CF arms from Trick Laser.

crazy thing is i had a lot of slop in my hot end unit before tricklaser arms and still got pretty good quality prints. now i have no slop at all (of course) but the quality in my initial print hasnt changed.. still banding like crazy

perhaps prints on the other edges will be helped and thats fine, but how often does one print out that far?

Awesome, thanks for the replies. I do like the idea of taking out the slack and with every upgrade, subtle improvements add up to better and better prints. At $85, it is not a bad price for the upgrade.

Just made due with needle nose and adjustable pliers.. arthritis be damned..
