Hello from Germany

Post by Sascha B »

Hello,
my name is Sascha. I own a German RepRap Neo 3d printer and I think about to purchase the Rostock Max V2.
But I am not shure if I should order some spare parts and accessoires with the printer. The shipping to Germany is very expensive and takes a long time, so I wat to have all I need to built up and eventually improve the printer if necessary.

Sorry for the bad english.. ;)

Regards
Sascha

If you're going to keep the stock hotend for a while, I would order extra nozzles, and a peek section. Standard nozzle is .5mm, optional sizes are .7 and .35 mm.

Thank you,
why only for a while? Is something wrong with the stock hotend? I planned to change the nozzle with a 0,35mm.
I add a peek to my shopping cart...

because of the peek, the stock nozzle is only recommended for materials that don't go above the 250c mark.

That's no problem. I only print with PLA.

Ultimately you'll only need to order additional items you can't easily source in Europe.

I found the following difficult to source in EU.
1. Build Plates (Borosilicate)
2. 30mm Squirrel Cage Blower Fans (Layer Fan)... can't find these anywhere.....
3. Replacement Nozzles

I personally would order at least 1X spare of 1 & 2 and I personally ordered a 0.35, 0.5 & 0.7 Nozzle.
I also ordered a couple of the heating resistors in case they failed and I had them on stock...
Some people would not bother with a spare build plate but living in Germany if you do break it your looking a 3 weeks+ for a replacement to ship from the US.

Some nice upgrades and stuff you can probably order more local.
1. Astrosyn Dampers (from UK but that's a bit more local).
2. Replacement 40mm Rambo Fan (Noctua 12V are good)
3. Replacement Peek Fan.
4. Consider a better PSU.. if it doesn't work or fails SeeMeCNC support is excellent and they will send you a replacement but this takes time...

The Orions & Max are really good at ABS, I started with PLA and tried ABS and not gone back except for an application that really benefits from PLA.
Generally I've found ABS to produce better quality prints though some people swear by PLA.. you'll also be printing your Peek Fan shroud from ABS so you'll need some anyway...
