I was curious if anyone else out there is printing with PET, and what their experience has been so far, especially in regards to speed, ooze, slicing, etc.

I print PETG. It's awesome stuff. It's like everything I love about PLA and ABS without everything I dislike.

I just started printing some ESUN PETG, I have a little more experimentation to do before i can say for sure I like it. So far I like a lot of things about it but I haven't had any 100% successful parts yet.

I've printed a couple of rolls of T-Glasse which Taulman say is PET-T, it has it's challenges, especially with smaller nozzles, but it's a nice material. Not sure I'd select it over PLA or ABS for most things. I haven't tried PET-G
For TGlasse I run 215C Nozzle 70 bed, and I set the extrusion width to 0.6 for a 0.4 mm nozzle. If I don't do the latter I get a void at layer start.
Stringing is an issue, I've yet to find a good retraction setting.

My biggest issue is stringing. I thought I had it licked but I woke up to a stringy mess this morning. I'm using 6mm retraction at 60m/s, previous print I was wiping at the end of everything which solved stringing as soon as I cranked up the temps so I will try this tonight.

I was getting really nasty stringing at even 240C and it was very foggy(clear PETG), I bumped up to 250C and it got clear, 260 and even clearer and less strings. The problem was I was extruding too fast and even 6mm retractions would cause there to be too much pressure at the nozzle.
What brand PETG are you running? Every formulation has different properties and melt temperatures - I might lower the temp a little bit and make some other changes.

Ah, I see. I'm not trying to print with any kind of transparency. My filament is white...my favorite color. The stuff I bought came from Alchement (https://www.alchement.com).

I've just taken off my e3d v6, not happy with it at all in all honesty. Back to stock for now, and I'll probably get a JHead instead.

Wow that's the first I've heard of someone removing an e3d!

I haven't had any issues with retractions...
anything less than that and it'll drool all over. I've been printing at high speeds and it really creates a lot of pressure in the nozzle where you need to relieve it with more retraction.
Alchement recommends much lower temperatures for their filament than ESUN. ESUN recommends 230-250C, I went over because results got better as I went higher without negative side effects, might have lost strength though, I'll try some new settings this weekend.

I must admit, I finally got retraction sorted (3.1mm at 65mm/s), but the print quality was worse than stock hotend!heathenx wrote:I didn't like my E3Dv6 either. Went back to stock.
Switched it back to the stock hotend (I had made the wiring loom modular with connectors), reset my MatterControl profiles, did a PID tune and then did a test print - better than I'd ever got with the E3D!
Won't be switching back, if anything I may go for a JHead so I can still print exotic materials. But for now, stock hotend > e3d.
I guess it also depends what you print, I am 95% PLA, so an all-metal hotend isn't usually as good. Even though I use the E3D v5 on my Prusa with great success, didn't get that in the Rostock, so back to stock

Is that with a stock 0.5mm nozzle vs an E3Dv6 w/ a 0.4mm nozzle? I take it you compensated for the change in size when you set up your configs. If so, I wonder what would cause such a drastic difference.

I have 28 or so days of printing on my MAX. It's had a Kraken on it since day 1, no issues. I changed to the V6 blocks and nozzles and things only got better. Another MAX I built had a regular V6 since day one and its printed everything fine.

yeah I don't know whats up with your issues but the E3D hot end prints much better than the stock seemecnc hot end.

Can't comment on the V6, but I have 2 V5's a V4 and a Kraken, and only the Kraken and one of the V5's do a good job of printing PLA. The others are junk with PLA.
It's quite possible there is enough variation in the V6's that some just don't work well with the plastic.

I had an E3D V5 that I took off my printer because it could never print PLA without jamming, even with MHackney's nozzle mod. My Prometheus on the other hand has been a champ with anything I run through it. I also absolutely love Alchement PetG, but I'm running it hotter than they recommend, 240c. At that temp the layer bonding is *outstanding*. I literally can't get prints to delaminate...with two pairs of pliers I can get prints to crack, but even then it's not along layer lines.

Hey to those who got crap results with their e3d v6 vs seemestock.... When I first installed my authentic v6, the included fan was majorly imbalanced and hence loud and producing tons of vibrations. I beleive I fixed this before stating printing with it so cant say if that was a real issue or not. Anyways, I fixed it by placing little squares cut from aluminum foil tape on a blade, listening for improvement, placing another on an adjacent blade, listening again, and so on until youre able to pretty accurately narrow down the ideal counterweight position and mass. I certainly imagine the decrease in vibrations at the platform (and elsewhere) improved print quality at least to some degree.

I am not happy with my V6..... anytime I do a print longer than 6 hours the nozzle slowly clogs. if I stop the print and let it sit at temp and wait about 3 minutes I can extrude and it unclogs. I do not have a layer fan, and the hot end matches temp when I measure with a thermocouple. it is horrible with pla, best with abs... petg acts like pla with horrible stringing. I have tried many things. my last attempt will be a larger nozzle for petg.

I recently complete a 22 hour print with PETG using a Prometheus hot end with a 0.4mm barrel using the linked configuration http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php ... eus#p68141.
It will take a geared extruder of some sort to handle the higher extrusion pressures.
The Prometheus avoids the complex heat break/ heater block/ and tip and the potential for misalignment that causes a fair amount of issues that some people have with the E3D. I have a V1 and V2 Prometheus and will soon add another V2 for a third build. They are a very solid hotend.

I routinely run 100+ hour prints in PLA, ABS, whatever, through my v6 and rarely do I ever get a clog. If I do, it's because of sub-standard filament or improper temperatures (on newly built machines with not-dialed in PID, for example).
If you are having trouble with the v6, look at the nozzle tightening routine, the bowden tube seating in the heat break, and retraction settings. It's a top-selling hot end for a reason.

I agree , once I read and followed the tightening process instructions and got the Bowden setup perfectly, the e3d v6 has been trouble free. A lot of my early trouble with it was due to loosening, it took me forever to notice what was actually happening. I got about 3 hours into a PETG print, complete with unusually large retractions and temperature cycles because I was alternating it with a support material extruder, and it lost extrusion because the extruder drive dupont connector on the board loosened, not because of any issue with the hot end. This was on the Mendel, not the Rostock, but that shouldn't make much difference.
