T-Rex Skull print quality
T-Rex Skull print quality
Hello and greetings from Germany,
I'm trying to figure out if the Rostock Max V2 has a better print quality than my current printer German RepRap Neo, this would be the main reason to buy it.
So I searched the last days/weeks for pictures of prints from the Rostock Max V2 to compare them with my prints. But I found nothing really helpfull.
I printed the T-Rex Skull from Thingiverse http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:308335 and found some pictures of it here http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=7312.
Is it printed with the Rostock MaxV2? and ist this a reference for the print quality?
Here are the results of my German RepRap Neo.
printed with PLA 0,2mm Layer and 0,5mm nozzle at 30mm/s

The ABS link you linked seems like pretty bad quality imo, it may just be that it's ABS, ABS is a funny thing to get totally calibrated, at least that's what I found.
The Rostock prints much better than what you've linked, as for comparison to your printer, I'd say it should be better yes, particularly on the teeth. How much? It's hard to say, the stock slicer settings are fantastic (below pic is stock).
This is PLA at 100 microns:

Re: T-Rex Skull print quality
Keep in mind that in your examples (T-Rex) skull, a lot has to do with the size of the print. Obviously the larger the part, the nicer any 3D printer will be able to get the teeth. Unless you know what size the print is compared to the one that you did on your Neo, it's not an apples-to-apples comparison. In addition, how well you get your printer dialed-in and quality of filament, temperature setting, etc., all play a role. Just my 2 cents...

it's printed without changing the original size from Thingiverse

What isn't clear is what size the example you linked to is printed at... there are multiple sizes available in thingiverse. And even if it is the same model, it could have been scaled up or down.Sascha B wrote:it's printed without changing the original size from Thingiverse

Re: T-Rex Skull print quality
I'm sorry. Maybe I didn't understand something right. My english is not very good... I can't see different sizes of the model in the link at my first post.
Anyway ... the size is 150mm x 90mm x 120mm (the two parts mounted together).

Re: T-Rex Skull print quality
That T-Rex print looks pretty nice, what specifically are you unhappy with that you're hoping will be better with a Rostock Max?
Re: T-Rex Skull print quality
I'm unhappy with small parts (like the teeth) or when I print gears. I hope the Rostock Max can do this better.
Re: T-Rex Skull print quality
Honestly your teeth look good, it's just the overhang that's a pain without support.
Re: T-Rex Skull print quality
Just printed a giant bolt and nut
natural PLA doesn't show quality that well but these had no strings or cleanup at all.

Re: T-Rex Skull print quality
I doubt the Max will produce significantly better parts if at all, unless you have a Cartesian specific issue like Z banding of poor layer alignment.
There is little that is inherently better about delta printers other than they look cooler.

And if you want those teeth to come out cleaner, use more cooling. Specifically, make sure the fan that's pointed down at the print is running at 100%, and if that's not enough add another fan.
