Printable recirculating linear bearings for carriages

Uses 3/16" delrin balls. The finished carriage with bearings and bolts is about one ounce. I have some delrin balls on order!

I have those on the Mini Kossel I made for my school. Really cheap and its delivering good results. Seems like there aren't a lot of people using them, not sure why.

We printed 2 sets of these for mini kossels for my son and his friend. They work really well but they are a little noisy.

I printed the bearing when Johann first published the design the best part of a year ago, they do work surprisingly well, it's a cool print if nothing else. You want to make sure not to over pack the bearings, one too few doesn't hurt.

I use this recirculating carriage as a perfect example of designing support into the model. There is no way any automated support generation in a slicer could generate support that would allow printing this model so it works without major trimming. Johann designed in a "zipper" support that literally just zips off leaving a clean model. It is brilliant and something that I use in my designs now. This type of support can be manually added to any STL file with a CAD or STL editing app too.

The early model didn't have designed support, it was added, you could print it in Kiss which is what I did by setting the maximum support height to be slightly higher than the bottom of the lip. I'm in two minds on manual support, when it's good it tends to be the best option, I occasionally see poorly designed manual support which is just annoying because it's often virtually impossible to remove.mhackney wrote:I use this recirculating carriage as a perfect example of designing support into the model. Agreed and the design issue goes to models too. There is a lot of less than optimal crap out there. Good designers do good designs and think through the support issues.
